New Texas License Plates Show Colorful Display
The new plates will broadcast numbers in yellow and blue with distinct colors for pleasure cars and commercial vehicles. Issuance begins about December 1, with rates from the last legislative session reducing costs by roughly 50 percent for light pleasure cars and about 40 percent for other vehicles. Vehicles will be rated by weight this year, benefiting heavier trucks, while a $5 surcharge applies to motorcycle sidecars in addition to the motorcycle license.

Car Fire Destroys Chrysler Belonging to Alvis McDowell
A Chrysler owned by Alvis McDowell burned last Thursday night on the highway about four miles south of town. McDowell, returning from Leonard near Bethel church, halted the car as heat appeared underneath. The blaze engulfed the vehicle before any action could be taken. He carried $450 in insurance.

Whitewright achieves a steady time record in street improvements with minor sidewalk adjustments. Two men wounded in Sherman shooting affray
Jesse Andrews, a negro, used a .22 pistol in a dispute near the Cotton Belt tracks. He shot Cummins twice, hitting him in the mouth and abdomen. Cummins is in Sherman hospital with non fatal injuries. Andrews is jailed, claiming Cummins advanced with a knife. Both men are local residents.

Telegram reports the death of W. S. Vernon in a Rochester hospital on Wednesday.
