Whitewright leads United Way drive at Sherman restaurant with 45 percent of a 4756 goal after three weeks and 2141 raised. Volunteers 38 strong, money from door to door and small businesses mainly benefiting Boy Scouts Camp Fire Girls Cub Scouts Red Cross and local services. County totals from last week include Denison 22 percent Sherman 19 percent and other areas. Butch Morgan was named chairman of the Christmas drawings. Merchants drawings will be held each Saturday in December at 4 p.m. Christmas Eve drawing at 2 p.m. Chuck Wilson reported on the light project. Milton Simpson presided. Tigers Dominate Honey Grove in 38-6 Victory on Friday
Whitewright Tigers raced to a 38-6 win over Honey Grove Warriors tying Cooper for the district lead in 16-A. Starters Stan Smith and Lonnie McCartney piled up 226 rushing yards, while Gary Tillett passed 132, Jeff Daniels and Reid Pittman combined for 68 and 46 receiving yards. Tigers’ defense held Honey Grove to 30 yards rushing and 9 passing, with two interceptions by Jeff Stader and a safety by Mike McCollum. Whitewright heads into a bye week before hosting Fannindel, as Honey Grove drops to 0-5 and travels to Fannindel.
