Whitewright Tigers blank Howe Bulldogs to seize district edge
Whitewright dominated on defense while edging Howe 168 to 88 in rushing as Ricky Rice returned a blocked field goal 87 yards for a second quarter touchdown. The Tigers, opening district play Oct 17 at Wolfe City, added two scores in the final period to stay unbeaten in league action. Army Pvt. 2nd Class Harold Wayne Low Jr. of Sherman departs for Thailand after enlisting last January and completing basic training in Mississippi. He is son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold W. 4-H Week Observed in Grayson County Texas
Grayson County joins national National 4-H Week October 5 to 11 with the theme 4 H in 76 Spirit of Tomorrow. Grayson 4 H youth total 1130 aged 9 to 19 with 100 plus volunteers across 13 clubs nationwide 4 H program overseen by Cooperative Extension Service. Special events include poster contests TV and radio talks, service club talks, window displays and the Awards Banquet. The week concludes October 11 with an old fashion picnic at Log Lake Park from 2 to 5 p m for all 4 H members families leaders and residents.

Whitewright Junior High Defeats Howe 14 6 In Tough Showdown
Whitewright Junior High overcame a larger Howe squad 14 to 6 after a strong second half. Howe led 6 0 on a 36 yard run before Whitewright’s defense forced a punt then Anthony Ballard ran in from the one yard line. A safety and a late 10 yard Ballard score sealed the win as coach Roach praised Ballard and teammates for standout defense and offense.
