The Whitewright Rambler notes Scouts in Whitewright plan Good Turn Day starting Sunday October 26 for one week. Nationally Scouts will distribute sacks inviting donations of repairable items for Goodwill, encouraging spring and fall yard cleanups and closet clearouts for charity. Literary Club Meets With Mrs. C J Meador
The Friday Literary Club met October 10 in the home of Mrs. C J Meador for a covered dish luncheon. Mrs. A R Brinkley, president, called the meeting to order. Mrs. Steve Sullivan introduced Mrs. Mitzie Bosco, Trinity District Parliamentarian of Dallas, who presented the Do's and Don'ts in parliamentary proceedings. The club adjourned with 22 members and five guests present.

Improvement In First-Class Service at Local P.O.
The U S Postal Service first class mail service improvement goes into effect at the Whitewright Post Office on October 11. Domestic first class mail weighing 13 ounces or less now receives service equal to or better than airmail. Airmail stamps remain usable on priority and international airmail and for exchanges at full postage value. Maps showing next and second day delivery areas will be on display in the lobby.

Candle Making Shines at Whitewright Community Club Meeting
The Whitewright Community Club met Thursday in Fireman's Hall with candle displays by members. President Florence Lewis opened the session, Artie Connelly read scripture, and O A Bennett hosted. Nan Robinson and Artie Connelly led nominating talks. Delegates Edith Grider and Bennett go to Federated Club on October 23 in Sherman. Door prize went to Mrs. Fifteen attendees included Pansy Miller Adele Ireland and Barbara Hewitt. Next meeting will be at Nan Robinson’s home with a costume party.

Grayson County TSTA Unit Holds First General Meeting
The Grayson County Unit of TSTA held its first general meeting at S&S School on the Southmayd campus. Donal Gilstrap of Hove led the program while James Davis, Mildred Landers, and Judy Flowers from Whitesboro provided refreshments. Norma Whitehead was named treasurer after Carole Linstead resigned, Tim Kelly became public relations chairman, and delegates were chosen for the District TSTA meeting in Dallas on November 6-7.

City Council votes to raise local rates in Whitewright
Whitewright officials approved fee hikes for water sanitation and sewage to take effect November 1 with December billing. Water rises include 1,000 gallons at 4 dollars and 80 cents per gallon thereafter. Sanitation and sewage rates increased for residents only. A bid for a 1971 Ford Police car was rejected. The council also approved six fire plug wrenches and authorized Mayor Walker to buy a motor grader at Perrin Field for up to 4 thousand dollars.

New Photography Studio Opens in Whitewright by Local Grad
Russell Martin, a 1969 Whitewright High graduate, opens a photography studio in Whitewright on November 1, operating from his home at 510 W Locust and offering wedding, advertisement, and animal pictures plus in home shoots. He plans a downtown studio later, is married to Bobbie Mitchell with son Ricky Wayne, and cites town ties and familiarity with residents as reasons.

Record Budget to Be Discussed At Baptist Convention
The Baptist General Convention of Texas will meet at the Dallas Convention Center Oct 28 30 to discuss a record 23 million dollar budget the largest ever adopted by the state denomination with 2.2 million members and 4400 churches and missions. Delegates will consider a plan covering foreign missions child care centers hospitals higher education and other Texas Baptist ministries and may re order internal structure to improve administration. They will also elect a new president to succeed Dr Ralph Smith after his two year term and the event will be preceded by meetings of Texas Baptist Men and the Woman's Missionary Union.
