October is United Fund month with a $3300 goal covering Whitewright and nearby six mile radius. Joe Johnson heads the drive, with team captains taking time off from normal duties to encourage donations. The note lauds volunteers for their time and funds.
School lunch menu lists daily meals from Monday to Friday. Items include sausage with gravy and spinach on Monday, veal cutlets on Tuesday, red beans with kraut weiners on Wednesday, barbecued beef on buns on Thursday, and salmon croquettes with dessert on Friday.
A prominent Congress member sought a travel-heavy Interior job for his son. Seaton asked what he could do and was told nothing, to which Seaton quipped that the problem of training him would be avoided.
A kickoff breakfast at 7 15 a m Tuesday at Ayres Cafe launches the Whitewright Community United Fund drive. Mr and Mrs Jess Blanks who reside five miles southwest of White Wright will host an open house October 12 from 2 to 5 PM. Friends are invited with no formal invitations. They married October 11 1908 in Bethel. They have one daughter Mary Lou Ayers and four grandchildren plus one great grandson Stevie Ford.

Leon White will moderate with Mrs Lallace May Mrs Jack Lackey Harry Lander Buell Range among the teachers and Mrs Bob Cawthon Mrs James Bryant Jack Meador Dick Walker among the parents. The public is invited.
Bill Riddle about 63 died Friday in Denton where he had lived in recent years. He was buried here Sunday and was a World War I veteran with a wife and two daughters. L S Jacks 58, brother of L F Jacks of Whitewright, died Sunday in Tulsa. funeral and burial were in Tulsa on Wednesday. A third brother Clifford Jacks of Fort Worth died three weeks earlier.
C L Moore 85 brother of Sallie Moore of Whitewright died Oct 7 at his son Bill Moore s Winters home and was buried there. He married Margaret L Johnson and the couple moved to Texas in 1904 settling at Whitewright before relocating to Winters in 1923. Mrs Moore died April 3 this year. Surviving include daughter Maybell Street Gainesville son Bill Moore Winters sister Sallie Moore Whitewright seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Ethel Jamieson confessed to stealing beef, bacon, and a baby’s rattle from a Newcastle store. She claimed four pep pills caused the spree. A fine of 42 dollars was imposed.

About 180,000 dependents of disabled workers may begin receiving supplementary benefits under the 1958 amendments. Eligible dependents include underage children, and wives with caregiving children, with payments starting in September 1958 after application to the local Social Security office.
Doctors describe a polyurethane foam technique to join fractured bone ends. The liquid foam poured into the fracture hardens in 20 minutes and binds the bone while dissolving slowly into the blood to allow growth. After three days a splint or cast may be removed.
New York Fire Commissioner Edward F. Cavanagh cites television as a factor in a 90 percent rise in kitchen fires this year. He notes most fires happen between five and seven p m and urges cooks to keep their eyes on the pot rather than the screen.
Whitewright High School Tigers travel to Princeton Friday night for the second conference game. Game time is 8 p.m. The Tigers recently beat Royse City Bulldogs 8 to 8, ending their long win streak. After Princeton they face Anna and then Van Alstyne on Oct 24 in the year’s key matchup. Junior Kittens host Royse City Thursday at 7 15.
Washington reports a record 1.5 billion bushels of wheat harvested this year with 500 million left unsold. Domestic millers and foreign buyers will take about 1 billion, leaving a large carryover and rising government costs. Assistant Secretary Marvin McLain explains potential carryover into 1960. Uncle Sam holds about $2.5 billion in wheat assets, making the surplus the costliest farm glut.
The National Fire Protection Association reports 2 million fires causing $1.28 billion in losses in 1957, the highest on record. Dwelling damage rose to 276 million, with 530 thousand homes damaged, and total building losses hit 1.068 billion across 843,900 structures.
