Austin. Dr. A. B. Cox of the University of Texas, a noted cotton marketing expert, blamed reduced domestic consumption and weak foreign exports for lower cotton prices. He noted a national stock of about 3,600,000 bales below last year, with August 1947 consumption down 145,000 bales and exports down 364,000 bales, yet he forecast demand and exports to rise between now and January, though prices may sag a bit further.
