In Whitewright area farmers face a poor cotton crop due to a hot dry summer and wet autumn. Donigan Gin manager Bill White says yields are about a quarter bale per acre. last year many grew half to full bale. Prices rose to 26 27 cents, up from 19 20. About 800 acres were abandoned. first bale Sept 8 by Jimmy Wilkinson. By Oct 5 about 180 bales pressed. total near 800 expected, well below last year’s 2800. Quality remains high despite rainfall with long staple and good color, though rainfall could reduce quality further.

Winners Crowned in Whitewright Punt Pass Kick Contest
After three days of competition last week, Whitewright named city champions for boys ages 8 through 13 in the Punt Pass and Kick event. Zone playoffs will be held October 9 at Denison Senior High School Practice Field, with winners advancing to district finals in Dallas October 16. Local standings list top scorers in each age group, led by Keith Tod McRee 128 and James E Miller 124 for thirteen year olds.

Stanley Oakley County Agent warns army worms may appear in Grayson County from October 1 to 10. Homeowners and producers should inspect lawns pastures and fields for young larvae that eat leaf undersides causing a whitish grass appearance. Larvae feed two to three weeks. insecticides such as Sevin Toxaphene or DPylex may control them.
