Neff Opens Red River Valley Fair at Sherman
Fifteen thousand people attended as Gov. Pat M. Neff officially opened the sixth Red River Valley Fair in Sherman. A noon parade preceded a 2:30 p.m. address by Neff, with Sen. Morris Sheppard slated to speak Thursday. Exhibits covered livestock, agriculture, home economics and commerce. schools and stores closed for the event.

Whitewright Tigers Defeat Sherman Kittens in Tough Local Battle
Whitewright scored a late six pointer to beat Sherman 6 0 in a hard fought high school game. Spectators praised Whitewright grit and speed though Sherman pressed the line and attempted passes. The Whitewright squad heads to Denis Friday to face a strong opponent as a potential feather in their cap.

Dr Holcomb to Speak at Baptist Church Tonight

County Tax Values Show An Increase
Sherman Oct 1 County Tax Assessor J H Davis completed Grayson County 1923 tax rolls and forwarded them to the State Comptroller. Despite a small decline in livestock and personal property values, total assessed property rose by 809251 with back rendition of 973020. Total valuations reached 49186103 up from 48376852 last year. Expected taxes amount to 83536175 vs 80607895. D R Vaughn County Tax Collector will collect most of the sum Dec 1 to Jan 31.

Mrs N M Holland Pioneer woman dies after long illness
Mrs. N M Holland wife of the late Rev Louis Holland died last Thursday evening after a two weeks illness. Born January 14 1842 near Wolfe City Texas she was nearly 82. Funeral held at Baptist Church with Rev F M McConnell and Rev G M McNeilly. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery. Survived by two sons a daughter twelve grandchildren twenty two great grandchildren four sisters and two brothers.

Aged man shot to death in Graham garage dispute
Graham Texas Oct 1 G W Bishop is dead and H C Walter jailed after a morning shooting at a local garage. Both men about 60 years old and well known. A dispute over an account led to the incident.

Cotton Receipts Small This Week Town Report
The past week’s rain kept local cotton receipts low with about three hundred bales ginned since the last report. Gins are catching up and warehouses should clear of stored cotton soon. Prices show little change, with middling cotton at around 27.50 cents. Mr and Mrs Grady Geer of Van Alstyne visited Mr and Mrs D S McMillin on Sunday.

Lightning kills man east of Sherman in Oklahoma
Sherman, Oct. 2. During a electrical rainstorm eight miles east of Sherman in the Smith Oaks community a lightning bolt killed John Henry White, 35, a farm laborer on Dr. Bryant's farm, and injured Bill Sims who was knocked unconscious. Both were walking through fields when struck.
