Walton disperses Oklahoma rebels at capitol stand

Oklahoma's rebel legislature failed to meet as Col. William Key ordered dispersal of the lower house at noon. He read Governor Walton's military order forbidding the session and no violence occurred as lawmakers scattered within minutes.

Cotton receipts rise with season near four thousand

At 8 o'clock Wednesday night the local gins had received 4 446 bales of cotton this season the largest number ginned here in years near the close of September. Gin men estimate total bales for the season will reach 5 500. Prices ranged 27.00 to 27.75 for lint cotton and 9 50 to 10 00 per hundred for seed cotton with 46 00 a ton for cotton seed. Pedigreed seed cotton brought 11 50 a hundred. Lee Dunn returned to Sherman from Bow-Wright Drug Co soda fountain and Emma Davidson visiting from Denison schools spent weekend with her parents.

Ed Doss, a prominent local farmer, brought in a seed cotton load weighing 6650 pounds for a record this season. The value of the cotton and seed was 748.67 dollars. Floyd Badgett, nearby, is edging toward a larger load, with friends predicting a new record may come soon.

Bells District Fair Opens in Bells Texas

Bells Texas Sept 27 The Bells District Fair opens with crowds bringing exhibits to fair buildings. A large poultry show is planned and stock and dog shows are set for Friday with prize money offered. Atkins Carnival Company arrived and set up attractions as preparations continue.

Singing Convention Will Meet Here in Whitewright

The Singing Convention Number One of Grayson County will meet in Whitewright at the grammar school auditorium on September 28 and 29. Singers from district classes will attend with Prof J C Hamrick and a Sulphur Springs quartet. Lester Pounds McBrayer of Blue Ridge Charley Thrall and Mr Burton of Denison will also attend. Many local and county singers are expected. An invitation is extended to all to attend Saturday night and Sunday programs.

Murray Jackson Found Guilty and Sentenced Five Years

Murray Jackson was found guilty by a Williamson County District Court jury of assault with a prohibited weapon in the April 1 flogging of R. W. Burleson near Taylor. He received a five year penitentiary sentence as the crowd in the Georgetown courtroom watched. The defense signaled no immediate action. The judge ruled that testimony about Ku Klux Klan membership or defense funds could not be used to convict, only to assess credibility.

Whitewright High Seeks Early Season Wins in Gridiron Opener

The Whitewright football team opens the season this Thursday against Sherman second team. Coach Willis works with new players amid limited practice. Despite light weights, Whitewright aims for speed and a winning streak, with several games ahead. Next Friday the squad travels to Denison to face the Denison high school in a key early test, a matchups the locals have fought hard in recent years.
