Accidental Shooting Wounds County Guard Near Howe

J. M. Monger of Bells, guarding a Grayson county gang northeast of Howe, accidentally discharged his gun while pursuing a prisoner at 8 this morning. The bullet pierced his leg bone. he is reported to be doing fairly well at St. Vincent's Sanitarium in Sherman. The escapee roamed free as two other guards aided Monger.

Pascal Weds Miss Paschall in Quiet Royse City Wedding

Pascal Cox and Miss Olive Paschall wed at the bride’s Royse City home on Monday. The couple, accompanied by Cox’s daughter Ruth, then toured Dallas and Waco before settling at Durant Oklahoma where Cox is employed in a large dry goods store.

Jack McPilfin Named State Bank Examiner

Jack T. McMillin longtime assistant cashier of Planters National Bank has been appointed as one of seventeen state bank examiners of Texas. He won a competitive Austin selection and will oversee about forty banks, auditing four times yearly. The position starts with a $2000 annual salary plus travel expenses and expects possible relocation from Whitewright.

McMillin Returns Home From Austin to Lead State Investigation

Hon. D. S. McMillin arrived home from Austin Saturday and resumed duties Monday as a Central Committee member supervising legislative inquiries into state departments. He chairs a sub committee and expects reports by year end, with a possible early year special session to consider joint committee recommendations.

Jim Reeves Returns Home Before New Aviation Service Post

Jim Reeves is on a fifteen day furlough at home before taking charge as assistant judge advocate in the aviation service at Dallas. He first enlisted in Houston and served as aid de camp. He attended Leon Springs for officer training, earned a first lieutenancy, and was chosen for further promotion to assist with legal duties.

Bible Society preacher aids soldiers with New Testaments

Rev. L. P. Smith of Dallas representing the American Bible Society preached at the Methodist church in place of Rev. Nash. He is collecting funds to buy New Testaments for soldiers, with distribution to be made through the Y M C A. A donation slightly over $30 was given at the church.

Army Y.M.C.A. fund drive reported progress

C. W. Bryant reports about 650 dollars raised toward the army Y.M.C.A. fund. Whitewright faces a 750 dollar assessment with expectations of full collection. Grayson county delays noted but expected to pay its share. About fifty million dollars has been secured for this work.

U S Fighting Force Tops 2 Million in Military Strength

Official figures show the United States has over 2,000,000 men in its fighting branches with heavy enlistments in the army navy and marine corps. The total includes National Army National Guard Regular Army Special Branches Reserves Navy Reserve Naval Militia Marine Corps Coast Guard and Hospital Corps. The grand total across services reaches 2,006,391 with further drafts expected to boost numbers to about 2.5 million.

Americans Exceed Liberty Bond and War Aid Goals

Revival Minister Holcomb Accepts Mansfield Pastorate

Mr. and Mrs. Joe McKinsey and Mrs. J. W. Pender motored to Denison last Thursday and attended an evening Evangelist Holcomb revival. In Whitewright a Baptist committee from Mansfield Louisiana offered him the Mansfield pastorate with salary and inducements, and he accepted. After the Denison revival he will proceed to Mansfield to begin his new work as pastor.

Death of J O McMillin Found at Local Rooming House

An elderly man named J O McMillin was found dead in his room at a local rooming house Monday night. A small hand grip with his keys and an identification check from Union Deposit Vaults of Boston is at John C Daniel Undertaking Co. A tag from Western Supply Co Tulsa cites McMillin. Officials will continue seeking his relatives as the body is held.

Soldier Takes $10,000 Policy Then Dies in Texas

Fort Worth reports Robert J. Anderson of Lufkin, private in the 143rd Infantry at Camp Bowie, bought a $10,000 life insurance policy under the soldiers act and died the next day of pneumonia. The $10,000 policy will be paid to his mother at $58 monthly for 20 years.
