Speaking from his Austin office, J M Musick of the Texas Safety Association warns Texans about Christmas tree decorating safety. He lists eight musts including keeping the tree outside until trimming, placing it away from heat, using nonflammable decorations, avoiding candles, checking lights and wiring, anchoring the tree, turning off lights at night, and disposing of the tree safely to prevent fires.

The Club Scouts of Den 4 met Tuesday afternoon at 4 with Mrs J Frank Wilson. Denner Mickey Meador led with singing America and a business meeting. Scouts read their self written codes and enjoyed scrapbooks before refreshments.

Masons from Grayson Collin and Fannin Counties are invited to a dinner Friday night Dec 7 in Sherman to observe the second anniversary of the chartering of Andrew Randell Masonic Lodge. Speaker will be Victor Messner Past Grand Senior Warden of the Grand Lodge of Australia. Dinner at 6 30 p m at the Masonic Temple in Sherman.
Government data show living costs up one half of one percent in October to a new record. The gain affects about 1.25 million workers in auto, farm equipment, aircraft and metalworking sectors whose wages are partly indexed to the measure, with most raises at two cents an hour. New car prices climbed nearly 11 percent in October as 1957 models carried higher tags. The Labor Department index reached 117.7 percent of the 1947 49 base, a 0.5 percent month increase and 2.4 percent higher than October of last year.
The Library of Congress study explains that voters on Nov 6 elected electors, not a president or vice president. Electors meet on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December and could replace either Eisenhower or Nixon if needed before December 17.

It noted Dulles and the President will discuss the Paris NATO ministerial council meeting set to begin December 11.

Bonham Daily Favorite reports ongoing vandalism in Bonham with repeated destruction of plate glass at their office this month. Earlier incidents include library file-card damage, school window breakage, oil thrown on a neighbor’s lawn, a home door vandalized, threats, slashed tires, damaged autos, and stolen drive-in speakers.
Sherman voters approve adoption of the council manager form by 542 to 258. The city shifts from a 1915 council commission setup. four councilmen and a voting mayor will be elected next April, appointing a city manager to run city affairs. The old system had 15 councilmen and a mayor. the council elected two commissioners and a manager.
The annual union service is at 7 o'clock at the First Methodist Church. Rev. Fred Waldrop delivers the message "We Give Thanks" after a piano organ prelude by Miss Alice Ayres and Mrs. Paul Ryan. A Thanksgiving offering will support the lunch program of the local Negro school. Public and all church members are invited.
Whitewright, southwest of Bonham, built a community chest with a $3000 goal and surpassed it on the first day. Final reports show near $4500 for the chest and agencies, with surplus set aside for emergencies. The effort reflects the town’s generous spirit and support for local organizations.
Rep. Walter Rogers of Pampa charged foreign aid harms American farmers. He cited six programs he said fueled ills, including 5 million more foreign acres and 1 billion dollars to promote agriculture abroad. Rogers argued foreign aid weakens U S farmers in world markets.
The American Cancer Society cautions that evidence links cigarettes to health hazards but cannot predict effects for individuals. A 20 page booklet notes findings are tentative and incomplete. It cites risk estimates for heavy smokers at about one in ten, lighter smokers about one in thirty six, and non smokers about one in 270.
The Arkansas Supreme Court faces a slim parcel case involving a 4.5 inch by 140 foot strip. Builder Bertha Breit asserts the land award is needed to prevent partial demolition of a cafe wall, arguing the stake is tied to her property rights.
