Whitewright held its 26th consecutive trades day drawing a record crowd from neighboring areas. Large livestock sales, strong merchant business, and full parking characterized a day with no special entertainment. The next trades day lands on Christmas Eve in December.
Washington. The Chamber of Commerce of the United States reports improving business sentiment extending from October into November. It notes a 6 percent rise in check payments, steady retail sales, stable wholesale prices, favorable car loading, and rising steel production as signs of confidence ahead of Christmas trade. The group urges less reassurance from government to spur initiative.
Federal Judge Randolph Bryant issued a permanent injunction blocking U S Attorneys in the southern and eastern districts of Texas from enforcing the sale price provisions of the lumber code. The ruling follows combined suits by Carter Kelly Lumber Company against the United States heard in Houston after prior temporary relief at Beaumont.
The Sun reports a strong close to the Fall subscription drive with a final day to join at $1.00 a year. New names and many renewals push the list, and readers express appreciation for the paper during tougher years as the honor roll adds numerous names including R. H. Whitewrights Tigers travel to Van Alstyne on Thursday to meet the local high school football team at 2 p m. The Tigers bring a 7 4 season record and a renewed rivalry with Van Alstyne after several years without a meeting. Local fans plan to attend in support.
The County Taxpayers League urged a countywide vote on a 300000 federal loan to build a new courthouse. League members protested the warrant plan and directed officials to survey the county jail for repairs. Speakers named Huffaker, George, Green, Wells supported an election. Talley urged a warrant.
Rev. C. W. Dennis spoke on Mexico at the Rotary Club luncheon with Dr. F. D. Layman presiding. He shared Mexican history and scenery along the Laredo to Mexico City highway, which is nearing completion. Rotary International meets in Mexico City next year and Texas clubs will promote large Texas attendance. The meeting was held Wednesday instead of Friday due to a homecoming program at the Presbyterian Church, with F. E. Douglas in charge.
Roy Burden, 34, was found dead in a pasture near his farm home northeast of Sherman this afternoon. A shotgun with one barrel discharged lay near the body. he had been missing since last Thursday. Justice C. W. Batsell held an inquest but withheld verdict pending further investigation, Burden died four or five days ago.

Special guests include descendants of Sears Chapel founders and former members. events feature memorial talks, music, and a Sunday lunch for seniors and couples married 50 years or more.
A C Casey agricultural agent for Denison Chamber of Commerce reports enough acres signed in Denison to assure a U S Department of Agriculture erosion control camp for Grayson County The plan could employ up to 200 men with 10000 acres needed in advance for terracing The government will provide trained supervisors while farm owners supply power some equipment and laborers Casey has led terracing work since last summer and four graduates already assisted local farms
Grayson County harvests 350000 to 400000 pounds of pecans this season with prices up to 12 cents per pound for orchard run nuts. Pecan farming has grown into a major local industry with some farms earning more from nuts than cotton. no complete crop failure reported and many orchards grafted to improved varieties. Thousands of pounds are shelled locally and shipped in carload lots to other destinations.
Three million ballots and tally sheets are being sent by the U S Department of Agriculture to state boards and local referendum groups for the December 14 ballot on continuing the Bankhead cotton bill. About 2 million producers are eligible to vote, with polls from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The act requires a two thirds vote for continuation.
Census data released November 24 report 19 738 bales ginned in Grayson County from the 1934 crop before November 14, a drop of about 56 percent from 44 419 bales ginned to the same date last year. Also note advice on softening lemons by soaking in cold water.
Local merchants may close for the holiday though not confirmed. Grocery stores will open briefly Thursday morning for last minute shoppers. Public schools dismiss Wednesday afternoon. Thanksgiving programs planned at both schools. A joint Thanksgiving service is set at the Presbyterian Church Wednesday night.
Edison Electric Institute moves to challenge federal power program in court. Leaders say government using public funds to destroy private power investments may exceed constitutional limits. McCarter cites legal opinion deeming Tennessee Valley Authority project palpably unconstitutional.
United States Marshal John B. Ponder of Beaumont announced that all federal prisoners will be removed from Grayson County jail within a week to ten days due to dangerous structural conditions. No federal prisoners will be housed there until a federal prison inspector from Washington approves the building.
Denison officials Mayor Clarence Scott J W Madden W L Peterson and Ford Seale returned from Austin after pleading with the state highway commission for completion of the Denison to Bells highway. They were assured the project would be presented in December and set for January grading drainage and an underpass of the T and P Railroad at Bells. Half the road is already graded and in use in good weather.
