Grayson County farmers will vote December 7 on a peanut quotas referendum and elect AAA community committeemen. W W Gunn of the Sherman Triple-A office announced the date set by the secretary of agriculture for convenience. Committeemen will elect delegates and alternates to the county convention where county officers are chosen. Due to reduced Triple-A funds, Grayson County cut community districts from 27 to 12 for 1948.
Tyler O B Ellis manager of Selby County Penal Farm in Memphis Tennessee was named general manager of the Texas prison system to succeed Maj D W Stakes who resigned November 3 He will assume his new post January 1 1948 The appointment was made at a special session of the nine member prison board the vote was unanimous Ellis will receive 6600 and subsistence the first year same as Stakes who resigned after a policy controversy The board also agreed to seek a salary increase from the State Legislature after the first year

The annual Rotaryann banquet at the First Presbyterian Church basement drew over ninety Rotary Club members Rotaryanns and guests. The program featured songs piano by Janis Jayne Horton and Mary Beth James, a piano duet, and speaker Jack Garrett president of Dallas Bank and Trust Company who discussed prices and policy postwar economy and anti communism. Out of town guests included Denison, Sherman, Leonard residents. local guests include Rev. R. L. Gilpin and others.
The American Cyanamid Company announced a new chemical insecticide named Thiophos 3422 that is 5 to 25 times more potent than DDT. Researchers at a Philadelphia news conference said no tested species showed resistance in the lab, with field tests at 75 agricultural experiment stations, including federal stations, conducted over the summer.
An American military mission in Poland is locating burial sites for about 500 American airmen and prisoners of war. Lt. Col. Hawthorne Davis of the graves registration section says 37 graves have been found in two months, mostly airmen shot down during bombing missions, with an estimated six months needed to complete the work.

Washington report notes the American Iron and Steel Institute estimates over 1 billion dollars will pass through automatic coin machines this year. Machines handle telegrams, razors, coffee, gum, newspapers, money change, tickets, lockers and more. One Philadelphia station ticket machine reportedly issues tickets and makes change without delaying trains. Other machines sell insurance, canned goods, dairy products and gas.
Ray Hausted of Detroit, 34, built a propane gas distributing firm formed in 1940 and valued at $250,000. He sold the business to join the Seventh Day Adventists, planning to become a minister after his pledge to God.
Fourteen ears of corn, possibly 900 to 1,500 years old, were found in a cave on Cottonwood Creek in Montrose County, Colorado. The discovery, reported by Dr. C. T. Hurst of Western State College, includes shelled corn and suggests use in ancient ceremonies.
