Republican leadership approved a 4 billion dollar tax reduction bill with a first target for enactment early next year. Harold E. Stassen leads all presidential aspirants except Harry S. Truman as country weekly editors name their personal-choice candidate for next November. Funeral services for W F Wright held in Whitewright
Funeral services for 78 year old W F Wright long time Whitewright resident were held at First Methodist Church with Rev R L Gilpin officiating. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery followed, with Glen Earnhart in charge of arrangements. Wright died after two weeks illness at St Vincent Hospital in Sherman. He was born in Pulaski Virginia on April 4 1869 and moved to Texas at 17, later relocating to Whitewright eleven years ago. He married in Trenton on November 10 1895 and is survived by his wife two sons Morris Wright and J Lloyd Wright a daughter Mrs J A Stateville plus four grandchildren and a brother.

Grayson County Tax Collections Good in October
Grayson County tax office reports October 1947 tax receipts of 299,809.23 dollars. Tax officer Robert Dean says collections are “going well” and notes 51,003.22 dollars in delinquent taxes since January 1, a record for the delinquent list. The first half on the split plan is due by November 30, with the second half due by June 30, 1948. Discounts apply only to state taxes. two percent in November and one percent in December. Poll taxes were omitted from mailed statements per an attorney general ruling.

City Installs New Well Pump
The City Commission approved about 3600 dollars for waterworks upgrades. A deep well turbine pump, powered by electricity, now serves the city’s first 1200-foot well from 1900, previously air lift operated until 1938 when a turbine system was installed.
