Community Bull Circle Formed in Grayson County

A meeting at the American Legion hall led to organizing a countywide community bull circle for dairy improvement. County Agent Morris and Sherman’s Lee Simmons explained aims while bankers arranged a financing plan to buy purebred bulls. Each circle to host about four bulls, rotating every two years to supply eight years of usage, with at least thirty cows pledged to trigger purchase.

Van Alstyne Grammar School Triumph Over Whitewright Team

The Van Alstyne grammar school boys beat the Whitewright seventh and eighth graders 25 to 20 after leading 25 to 0 at halftime. Spectators said the hard fought game was the season’s most interesting and enjoyable football this fall.

Kentuckytown Self Help Club Meeting Recap

The Kentuckytown club met with Mrs. Albert Pennell and Mrs. Carl Holland presiding. Miss Inez Derryberry spoke on Livable Living rooms and a round-table discussed living room improvements. Holland won first prize $7 and Mrs. Badgett won second prize $38 in the club contest.

Van Vestal Wins Gold Medal in State Essay Contest

Van Vestal, the Texas state winner in the highway safety essay contest, received a gold medal and a $15 prize check from the national headquarters. His essay earned first place in Texas and will advance to the national contest as the sole Texas submission in its division.

Father of Late President Harding Dies in Santa Ana

Dr. George Harding father of the late President Warren G. Harding died at his daughter's home in Santa Ana after a stroke. He suffered the stroke Friday night and did not regain consciousness, dying shortly after 4 a.m.

Death of Mrs Mary Lee DuPuy at Dallas hospital

Mary Lee DuPuy daughter of Mr and Mrs H Benedict died at Baylor Hospital Dallas Tuesday at 12 05 pm after a minor operation. She was 36 next birthday. Funeral at Benedict residence with Rev Purvis and others, burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Survived by parents, one brother Sam Benedict and two sisters, plus three aunts. Active pallbearers listed. Out of town relatives attended.

Leper, Cured, To Return To Home In North Carolina

John Early a 54 year old North Carolina mountaineer has been declared recovered from leprosy by the United States Public Health Service. His case is described as arrested with scant danger of relapse and he will return to his mountain home near Tyron after treatment at Carville Louisiana.

Anderson Boys Establish Kennel Business in Whitewright

Elmer and Guy Anderson, living southwest of Whitewright, have begun a dog kennel business focusing on registered Collie and rat dogs. They paid $35 each for two dogs last week and sold two on Friday for $20. Their kennel now holds about thirty dogs and they expect to attract buyers with proper advertising amid Texas’ large kennels proving profitable.

San Antonio reports Augustus J. McCloskey Democrat won the Fourteenth district seat by 240 votes over Republican incumbent Harry M. Wurzbach after the Bexar County canvass. McCloskey was declared the winner as the county commissioners completed the tally.

Big crowd expected as Whitewright posts head-to-head with Leonard

Leonard plans a 200 strong fan contingent for the game while Whitewright merchants close for the event. A large crowd is anticipated as only one more game remains before Whitesboro visits the local field next Wednesday afternoon, the day before Thanksgiving.

Whitewright Boy Sails on Hoover Good Will Trip

Clifton Chambers of Whitewright serves aboard the battleship Maryland on the Hoover Good Will voyage across the Americas. The ship, carrying President-elect Hoover, will cover about 17000 miles visiting Guatemala Nicaragua Balboa Guayaquil Buenos Aires Panama Veracruz and Valparaiso before returning to America in January. The Maryland departed San Pedro California on Monday and will stop at a Florida port in January.

Cotton ginned by Nov. 14 totals 11 320 302 bales in census report

Census Bureau figures show the 1926 crop ginned before Nov 14 reached 11 320 802 bales including 140 960 round bales as half bales. Last year 10 894 912 bales and 1926 12 956 444 bales. Department of Agriculture estimates the crop at 14 133 000 equivalent 500 pound bales.

Good English Club Elects Officers and Rules Adopted

The Good English Club of seventh grade met in the grammar school auditorium. Frances Montgomery was elected president, Billy Magar treasurer, and Mary Joe Sears secretary. The club adopted several rules to be enforced on any accused of a misdemeanor. They adjourned to meet again Friday, Nov 26. Mrs. Laud Bennett and her daughter from Denison visited Mrs. W. C. Fain this week.

Leonard to Play Tigers Here Friday

Leonard High School travels to Whitewright Friday afternoon to face the Tigers in a key season finale. The match is expected to draw large crowds as Leonard plans 200 fans and Whitewright about 400, with a 2:45 PM kickoff and local businesses closing for the game.

Pioneer Grayson Banker William Ferguson Dies at 62

Sherman report states William Walter Ferguson 62 prominent Grayson County banker died at his Howe home Tuesday after a day of business in Sherman. He was found unconscious and paralyzed, never regaining consciousness. John Philip Barbee left for San Antonio after visiting his parents Mr and Mrs T E Barbee.
