The annual Thanksgiving service for the Whitewright community will be held on Wednesday evening at the First Baptist Church starting at 7 o'clock. Ministers from Whitewright churches will participate and music will be provided by the High School Choral Group directed by Mrs. Sarah Kilgree. Reverend R. L. Gilpin urges the public to join in reverent thanksgiving.

USO Drive Reaches Halfway Mark in Local Effort

Rainey Accepts Stephens College Presidency in Missouri
Dr. Homer P. Rainey has accepted the presidency of Stephens College in Columbia Missouri ending an eight year Texas chapter. He previously served as University of Texas president and was dismissed in 1944 after disputes with the regents. Rainey ran for governor in this year's race but lost in August to Beaufort H. Jester. The Raineys plan to move to Missouri after early next year.

Navy Officer Training program opens to Texas seniors
In January 1947 many Texas cities will host competitive exams for high school seniors and graduates within age limits for the Navy Officer College Training program. Successful candidates earn a four year government funded college education and commissions. Exams occur in Austin Dallas Houston Lubbock and Wichita Falls. Two tracks exist: Naval ROTC at 52 colleges including UT and Rice Institute, and Naval Aviation College pairing two years of study with two years of flight training and officer commissioning followed by further education and active duty pay.

If other oil firms raise prices like Humble Oil did, state revenue from crude oil taxes may exceed 3 million dollars, Acting Comptroller Bob Calvert said. Evidence shows men beat women at auto wheel
Columbus Ohio new evidence from Ohio State Fair tests by highway safety engineers shows men have quicker driver reaction times. In a study of over 1000 drivers men averaged 0.57 seconds to brake versus 0.62 seconds for women. Reaction times rise with age, with those under 20 slower than 20 to 29 and increasing after 29.

Will Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary Sunday
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hampton of Whitewright will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday November 24. The Hamptons, natives of Texas, were married at Westminster Collin County November 24, 1896. They lived in Pilot Grove before moving to Whitewright. They have five children. Mrs. Hampton is the former Miss Bell Stinson. Their children will hold open house at the Hampton home Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.

The Whitewright Home Demonstration Club held an achievement day at Mrs. Elmo Wallace’s home with a dish luncheon. Zelma Moore demonstrated shrubbery preparations and plant diseases. Members reported 3000 cans of produce, 5760 pounds of meat, 6590 dozen eggs, 360 garments, 26 chairs, a divan, and a dress form. The club exhibited at Red River Valley Fair and dairy day, winning prizes and first place. The club has 23 clubs in the county and adjourned to meet November 27 at 2 p.m.

Grayson County Ginning Totals Share Growth This Season
Grayson County ginned 12 569 bales through November 1, more than double last year's 5 884 bales, as reported by G C Peterson, federal cotton census agent from Carpenters Bluff. Unfavorable weather and a weevil infestation reduced the prior season's crop to one of the county's smallest on record.

Simmons Barber Shop Changes Hands in Whitewright
