Charlie Blanton a 24 year old Black man from Whiterock northwest of Whitewright is jailed in Sherman on a murder charge after his wife was found dead in bed Sunday night. Ex county clerk wins suit for pay
Bonham, Judge R C Slagle instructed a jury to find for J L Dobbs former county clerk in a suit claiming 1250 dollars salary for seven months in 1944. The county had paid 175 dollars a month though the statutory minimum was 354.16 dollars. The court held the county could not barter an office or lower the salary. The county gave notice of appeal.

Veterans claimants exhaust unemployment readjustment allowance
The Veterans Administration reports 15 percent of World War II veterans who filed unemployment compensation claims more than a year ago are no longer entitled. About 50,471 have exhausted their 52 week readjustment allowance as of January 1, with potential total reaching 115,000. September saw 10,330 exhaustions. roughly half of 13,748,000 claimants had filed for allowances and many remained jobless. Since payments began, VA has issued about 1.7 billion dollars in unemployment checks. October payments fell below 100 million for the first time since January.

Blast at Muleshoe injures five and demolishes post office
An explosion heard four and a half miles away demolished the brick post office in Muleshoe Bailey County injuring five people including Postmaster A J Gardner and his wife. Accumulated gas blamed for the blast as the men and women were trapped under debris. The roof collapsed and windows shattered while a plumber shut gas and halted a fire.
