Lone Star Gas announces Carl L. Trevitt to the newly created general sales and promotion post in the General Division of Distribution. M. L. Bird, vice president, notes the move is part of reorganizing and expanding the promotional program. Kenneth N. Watkins becomes assistant sales and promotion manager, moving up from dealer assistance department in the same division.
Most local business houses will close all day November 25 for Thanksgiving as in years past. The Sun will publish a day early next week due to the holiday, needing advertiser submissions by a day early. The annual union Thanksgiving service is set for Wednesday night at the First Baptist Church.
Rhonda Beth Bonds three year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Clarence Bonds was stricken with polio last week and spent days in a Sherman hospital. She is now at home and doing nicely with her right arm paralyzed yet fingers usable. She receives physio therapy in Sherman with hope of restoring full use. Rhonda Beth is Whitewright's first polio victim in several years.
A multi million dollar campaign called Religion in American Life seeks to deepen devotion across Roman Catholic Jewish and Protestant communities. Backed by the Advertising Council and major media the month long drive promotes church and synagogue attendance with radio TV posters ads literature and direct outreach to bolster spiritual values nationwide. Local communities report rising church attendance from last year as the sixth annual effort continues.
Funeral services are at 2 p m today at Barnheart Chapel for Mrs Bonnie Pearl Davis wife of the late T D Davis. Rev C J Graves of Sherman will be assisted by Rev Harold S Taylor. Burial in Wittitoe Cemetery. Surviving: two daughters Mrs T G Teague and Mrs H L Scott. four sons C E Davis F H Davis N H Davis Guy Davis. one sister Miss Varonne Darnell. seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Texas Governor Allan Shivers challenged the South to act decisively to prove that states rights will work. Speaking at an Alabama Chamber dinner in Birmingham he urged energetic state government action to meet the needs of all citizens regardless of race. He said states rights are American rights rooted in the Constitution and the Tenth Amendment.
Senator George D. Aiken says Democrats lack the will to push rigid farm price supports in the new Congress and notes Republicans benefited from advocating flexible price supports. The Vermont Republican will cede the Agriculture Committee chair in January to Senator Ellender. An unrelated line notes an antelope sprinting at 62 miles an hour.
Tax Foundation study shows a $4,500 annual earner spends about 2 hours 35 minutes daily on taxes, with taxes totaling far more than food housing clothing or transportation costs. The eight hour work day is split into tax burden 2 hr 45 min and other expenses like food 1 hr 57 min housing 1 hr 24 min and transportation 42 min.
Mansfield Ohio Louis Bromfield author and farmer will sell his Holstein herd as dairy farming proves unprofitable. He says farming in general is more lucrative and less troublesome than milking. He warns a milk shortage may follow if prices stay low, noting farmers receive 7 cents a quart while milk sells for 22 cents.
The annual union Thanksgiving service will be at First Baptist Church at 7 p m on Wednesday November 24 led by Rev Newton Cole with Rev Lee H Smith delivering the sermon and Rev Harold S Taylor directing the music. A pilot Grove union service at Pilot Grove also set for 7 p m with Rev Byron Hardgrove speaking invites all in the community.
The Farmers and Merchants Club will meet tonight at the school agriculture building with O. R. Edwards of route 1 as guest speaker. Refreshments of doughnuts and coffee will be served. All farmers and business men are invited to attend.
Tigers, District 13 A champions, will face Jefferson, District 14 A champions, in Greenville on Nov 25 for a Thanksgiving game. Site approval was pending, with Mt Pleasant and Whitewright alternatives, and a coin toss favoring Whitewright.

Austin attorney general confirms state investigators are probing possible violations in the veterans land program sales in South Texas. The inquiry involves misrepresentations to Negro veterans and is conducted with De Witt County authorities. No figures on veterans or money are released. a Veterans Land Board meeting is set for December 7.
State Treasurer Jesse James seeks to issue a receipt for $30 in currency received Monday. A note appears in disguise claiming funds may be due to a general revenue fund. A Logansport Louisiana sender included $10 and $20 bills and a plea for a receipt if the guilty person provides a name.
Houston news reports indict George B. Parr, noted South Texas political boss, for a second time on income tax evasion. The 53 year old millionaire faces a three count federal indictment claiming underpayment of taxes for 1949 1950 and 1953 amid a wider Duval County probe yielding 104 indictments against Parr and others.
Dr Grover Ensley says Americans may work at least four hours less weekly by 1965 and see about a 30 percent rise in purchasing power over the next decade. He spoke at an Agriculture Department outlook conference outlining committee projections. He estimated population rising from 162 million to 190 million by 1965 under a consistent projection set.
Charles Spinner aged 59 rode his motorcycle home after visiting a pub and three pints. A court ruled he was drunk in charge of a motor vehicle and fined two pounds with a one year license suspension.
