A community barbecue at the White Wright Volunteer Fire Department's American Legion Park is set for Saturday night from 6 to 9. Adults pay one dollar and children fifty cents. proceeds fund the purchase of a new fire truck pictured in the paper.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Moran of Rose Hill observe their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Married November 18, 1908, in Rose Hill with Rev. Isaac Teague officiating, Rosa Lee Gant is Mrs. Moran's maiden name. The couple has two children and two grandchildren, and both are active members of Tom Bean Baptist Church.
The agriculture department projects a 5 to 10 percent drop in farm income in 1959, offset partly by a 20 percent rise this year. Net income is seen near 13.0 billion dollars, production costs rising, with price declines for hogs poultry eggs cotton corn and other crops. Government payments under soil bank to fall by 700 million, while off farm income remains about one third of total. Daylight saving time was first advocated in England in 1907.
The Agriculture Department projects an 11 764 000 bale national cotton crop with Texas at 4 250 000 bales. Texas up 150 000 bales from a month ago on better North Texas weather, and nationwide ginning totals reach 7 316 102 bales before Nov 1. Owensboro Kentucky reports the two million dollar Da viess County High School dedication. The school features air conditioning in 90 rooms, a 1 000 seat auditorium with upholstered seats, a hat check room, patio, mirrors, skyglass, campus parking for 750 cars, acoustical ceilings and walls and a gym with movable partitions. It spans 57 acres with practice fields for football and baseball. Classes began in September.

The Veterans Administration plans to ask Congress for discretionary authority to raise GI loan interest rates and to remove the two percent gap between VA and FHA rates. VA official Philip N. Brownstein indicated no specific increase yet, citing market conditions and investment returns as factors. He noted October appraisal requests fell about 33 percent from August amid tighter money markets.
CORPUS CHRISTI President J H West of Bishop opened the Texas Farm Bureau silver anniversary session with a warning that the government cannot spend its way to prosperity. More than 800 voting delegates and many others heard him say parity is good politics but hard on business. He urged reliance on markets as acreage allotments price supports and quotas fail to curb production and warned of a future with vast wheat and cotton farms if laws are not changed.
