Most Whitewright businesses will close at noon Friday in observance of Armistice Day. A few will stay shut all day including the First National Bank post office and barber shops. Grocery hardware dry goods and drug stores will close at noon. Whitewright Tigers meet Farmersville in Friday football in Farmersville with pep squad and students accompanying. Poll Tax Rules Require Poll Tax Receipt for Voting
Sherman tax official Collier Yeary warned exemptions for voters over 60 must be applied at the tax office. He noted some tried to vote without a poll tax receipt or exemption and said the office cannot mail exemptions. State Comptroller Sheppard stressed officers are accountable for all poll taxes, and Yeary will not accept property taxes without the poll tax. The poll tax funds local and state government functions, with 25 cents to the county, 1.00 to the state permanent school fund, and 0.50 to the state general fund.

Grover B. Smith Brought Here After Automobile Wreck
Grover B. Smith was seriously injured in a Friday night automobile collision west of Omaha in East Texas and brought to his mother-in-law’s home in Whitewright. He suffered a broken right arm in several places, a broken left arm, and facial injuries. He and his son were en route from El Dorado, Arkansas to Dallas with an empty trailer when their car collided with a lights-off vehicle carrying three men from Dalby Springs, Red River County. Both cars’ occupants were hurt. Smith and Victor Pirkey were the most seriously injured. State troopers rushed them to Mt. Pleasant hospital, and Miss Mae Hall later brought Smith to Whitewright.

King George VI to Visit America A royal invitation accepted
King George VI told Parliament he had accepted President Roosevelt’s invitation to visit the United States during his Canadian tour next spring. Democrats Win in Whitewright General Election Vote
Whitewright voters numbered 143 cast ballots on Tuesday in the general election. Democrats swept Republican rivals by 14 to 1 as Socialist and Communist candidates drew no votes. The oath of office constitutional amendment passed 89 to 20. Republican Jack Nossaman led the GOP ticket with 11 votes, three more than the gubernatorial challenger. Democratic governor nominee W Lee O Dan iel tallied 135 votes to eight for the Republican. One Democratic nominee posted 138 votes, three more than O Daniel.

Coeds at Texas Tech technological College tried a superstition by placing a wedding cake slice under pillows for eight nights to dream of their future husbands. Over 96 nights the slice sat with 12 coeds, but results were negative with one participant reporting dreams of “the awfullest goons.”

Texas polls show far fewer votes in general election
After polling over a million in July, Texas voters gave scant turnout in the general election with under 250000 votes reported from 209 of 254 counties. Denison dam project holds preferred status for flood control
