The 1954 amendments bring federal old age and survivors insurance to most farm families starting January 1955. Coverage applies to farm operators earning up to 400 dollars in profits yearly and to farm employees earning up to 100 dollars from the same employer. Farmers urged to request a leaflet and obtain a social security card promptly.
L L Wendell invites singers and listeners to a First Sunday Singing Convention at Cannon Sunday afternoon at 2 p m. He says regular attendees will join and urges both singers and non singers to attend for a large listening audience.
An official Boy Scout Court of Honor will be the program for the PTA meeting on Tuesday November 9 at 7 30 pm. The event recognizes Scouts advancement and several will receive badges. Everyone is invited.
Texas voters approved all 11 proposed constitutional amendments including jury service for women and a state office building funded from surplus Confederate pensions. Bruce Alger won the lone Republican House seat in Dallas County, defeating Wallace Savage as J. Frank Wilson retires. GOP vote total was about 75,000 with Democrats sweeping other offices.
School lunch plan lists daily menus from Monday through Friday featuring hot roast beef on bun with sides, salmon croquets, red beans, fried pork sausage, and hot dogs with chili. Desserts include doughnuts, cookies, short cake, and ice cream sticks with milk.
In Washington 26 of 29 comic book publishers pledge a new ethics code banning stories about zombies ghouls vampires and werewolves and prohibiting portrayals that disrespect authorities glamorize crime or show gruesome violence or kidnap plots. Charles Murphy named czar of the trade as the code is announced.
Election judge R H May cites 200 votes cast in Whitewright general election with 15 Republican votes. Democratic tickets led in governor Allan Shivers and senator Lyndon Johnson, while Republicans polled 15 in each race. Constitutional amendments mostly approved, two failed.
President Eisenhower expressed astonishment at election results and said he would seek talks with Democratic leaders on major bills. He urged cooperation, denied repudiation of policies, and stressed a moderate approach while avoiding personal attacks.
The University of Toronto poll of 100 students finds the average co-ed drinks 12 pints of beer weekly while the average male drinks seven. The Varsity reports the result as a student newspaper observation.

Transportation is offered via City Hall 5 2224. The drive aims to detect early tuberculosis and lung cancer with cash prizes for participants and parade events in Whitewright and Bells.
Texas will install SPEED LIMITS RADAR ENFORCED signs along major routes by mid November as the DPS begins radar patrols. Col Homer Garrison Jr notes demonstrations showed radar accuracy and speed enforcement remains a tool, not a cure-all, for reducing fatal crashes.

Texas Attorney General John Ben Shepperd halted a plan to poll high school students on school segregation after public scrutiny.
