Rain this week brings the total to 2.37 inches with May at 4.20. C C Cates of the city water department records daily rainfall in May on nine days, noting crops in clean condition but worry weeds if rain continues. Farmers welcome rain but fear weeds and grass gaining headway. some grain already cut and set to be binders ready.
A deadline extension to June 10 has been granted for signing work sheets under the new federal soil conservation program, announced by B F Gray, county farm agent. The state committee urged farmers to sign, noting weather and crop losses make cooperation essential. Payments cover up to 35 percent of cotton base, 20 percent of peanut base, and 15 percent of general base. oats can be harvested from shifted cotton, with conditions for soil building payments and follow-on crops. Farmers must sign plowup dates and keep seed receipts. compliance on one farm requires compliance on all.
Veterans of Foreign Wars officers from Sherman send a group to Whitewright for the annual poppy sale. Funds support orphans of veterans and disabled veterans and widows and the Sherman group was invited by the American Legion post to sponsor the event.
Mrs Bertha Minor and others of Howe filed a Fifteenth District Court suit in Sherman seeking 25000 damages from Texas Electric Railway. She alleges serious injuries on February 26 1936 while alighting from the interurban car in front of the company depot in Sherman.
A truck returning from Blue Creek to Whitewright carrying eight to nine negro passengers was sideswiped on the Bells Sherman highway. Several injured, including a woman taken to Sherman Hospital. The driver fled and was not apprehended. The truck was local driven.

Several animals remained in Grayson and Bryan counties. Howard McCorley, manager of the farm, purchased 19 head and will stay on Lawn Farm.
Washington reports the public debt at 31.5 billion dollars and the treasury plans to borrow about 750 million dollars on June 15 plus refinance 1.05 billion in maturing obligations. Extra cash supports soldier bonuses federal operations and emergency reserves as world conditions weigh on policy. The government has a working balance around 1.9 billion. veterans certificates total 1.95 billion but only about 1.5 billion may be cashed now. Before June 15, 150 million will be realized via weekly cash borrowing and another 500 million from June receipts.

The U S Supreme Court ruled the 1934 municipal bankruptcy act unconstitutional in a five to four decision. Justice McReynolds delivered the opinion sustaining the challenge while Justices Cardozo Hughes Brandeis and Stone dissented, saying the statute is constitutional.
