Washington reports a two point drop in the index of prices received by farmers from 105 percent of pre war level on April 15 to 103 percent on May 15. Wheat hogs beef cattle and dairy products led declines while fruit and chickens rose. cotton and cottonseed were flat. grain and meat animals fell. The index of prices paid by farmers for May 15 remained at 121, leaving an 18 point disparity between prices received and prices paid for necessities.

Giant Southern Pine Trees to Centennial Exposition
A convoy of eighteen trucks delivered seventy five southern pine trees from Eastern Texas to Dallas for the Texas Centennial Central Exposition. Each 20 to 30 foot tree will be planted around the CCC exhibit area with burlap wrapped sodded roots and boxed in lumber to prevent damage on the non stop 300 mile trip from Patroon.

Onion Harvest Creates Labor Shortage Here
The Whitewright area faces a labor shortage as onion harvesting clashes with cotton chopper demand. Wages rise to 1.50 per day for cotton choppers while locals also travel to Farmersville for onion picking. A salvage company employing men women and children salvages 15000 bushels of parched corn near the old round bale gin to be shelled ground for feed. PWA projects continue to provide local jobs, and no one who wants to work is without options.

Lester Haile, a grain and cotton seed dealer, purchases the 75 by 100 brick building on Bond street and three iron clad warehouses from Grover Gillett of Lubbock. C W Burk sold the first oats of the season grown on the John Everheart farm north of town. Lester Haile bought the crop, paying a premium as the oats went to market around twenty five cents. Burk harvested with a combine, cutting and threshing in one operation.

Grayson Farms Put Up For Forty Year Tenant Plans
Seventeen Grayson County farms are optioned by the Resettlement Administration for resale to tenant farmers on a forty year pay basis. Tracts between Southmayd Gunter Van Alstyne and Tom Bean total 1903 acres. Homes will be remodeled or rebuilt with improvements. Buyers pay 4.3 percent of principal annually and receive clear title after forty years.
Gunfire Fatal for Young Bonham Man
Dan Buford, 25, bottling company truck driver, was found dead at his Bonham home Tuesday afternoon with a .45 caliber pistol wound. The gun was near the body and an inquest was planned. He is survived by his widow and 3-year-old daughter. Buford was active in the local young people’s set.

High Court Void of 1933 New York Minimum Wage Law
The Supreme Court, in a five to four decision, struck down a 1933 New York law setting minimum wages for women and children, ruled unconstitutional for violating due process by restricting contract rights.
