Graduation exercises for the Elementary School eighth grade will be held Friday night May 26 in the High School Gymnasium. Sam P. Hooper will give the introduction and recognize honor students and parents. Rev. Dale Gore will be the speaker and S. T. Montgomery will present promotion certificates. Several staff and ushers named accompany the ceremony.
Detroit researchers at Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory analyzed over 18 thousand accident cars, including more than 4300 with power steering. Findings show power steering cars collide more with objects, rear-end more often, and right-front involvement rises, with fewer violent rollovers. Further study needed to explain why and to determine relative danger.
South African geneticist Dr. Daan Marais has spent 13 years and bred 800 dogs aiming for a colossal watchdog and hunter with high intelligence. He seeks a dog weighing about 250 pounds capable of tackling leopards or baboons threatening cattle farmers in southern Africa.
New York reports about 2,500 brides will wed in paper gowns this year as Hartford Textile Corp leads the disposable garment trend. President Robert Magid says sufficient paper fabric finished to resemble white satin has been sold to bridal gown houses to produce 2,500 gowns.
Funeral services held at Mullican Little chapel for Irene Brown a Whitewright school teacher who died in a Dallas hospital after a two month cancer illness. She was born in Ladonia daughter of L F Jacks and the late Effie Jacks married W C Brown May 7 1938. Survived by husband father and three sisters Leola Grayson Mozelle and Doris Jacks. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
In a letter to the editor Uncle Dan recounts a Saturday night discussion among locals led by Zeke Grubb's preacher. They debate the moon race, Russia, and wartime debt, with Ed and Clem arguing for or against moon funding as part of prosperity while warning against national bankruptcy. The writer reflects on patriotism and a belief in a purposeful, but misused, moon program.
Mrs. C. C. McKenna was informed Monday of the death Sunday of her brother Manion Kennard. He was 86 and died in Hammond Indiana. Kennard grew up in Whitewright and his family ran furniture and dry goods stores in the area around the turn of the century.
Funeral services were held for E O Young 81 of Bells on Sunday at Mullican Little Funeral Home with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. He died Friday in Sherman hospital after living on a farm near Whitewright and later operating a Bells grocery. Surviving are three sons a daughter two brothers four sisters and four grandchildren.
Lt John B Price husband of former Martha Anderson was killed last Thursday when his plane crashed in California. He was buried with military honors at San Antonio Tuesday. Price, son of Col John Price of California and Mrs Guy Victory of Ft Worth, is survived by his parents wife and daughter Sherry. His wife, daughter of Mr and Mrs Sears Anderson of Whitesboro, lived in Whitewright years ago while her father was connected with the First National Bank here.

The flood retention dam on Joe Johnson's land southwest of town will be about 1 000 feet long and hold much water. The federal project, part of several on the Pilot Grove Creek watershed, is estimated at 25 000 dollars, with the land inundation as the only cost to Joe. The dams aim to curb flooding and offer fishing access.

A daughter was born to Clifford Jarvis on May 15 and a son was born to Clifton Brewer on Tuesday.
Blanche Montgomery is valedictorian and Gladys Smith salutatorian of the 1927 senior class. Other seniors include Ona Belle Hampton Ruby Dishner Louise Drake Carl Odel Amatone May Jake Keeling Clemmer Coggins Swan Richardson Wesley Burk Hester Martin Mildred Holcomb Findley Haile Julius Everheart Leon Spindle Homer Craig Dorothy Gordon Evelyn Wilson Margaret Barbee Talmadge Lawrence. Noel Skaggs and neighbors killed 424 rats at his barn Saturday. Mr Robert Taylor of Pilot Grove and Miss Belle Hunter of Van Alstyne wed Sunday. J W Murphy bought S R Parks dry goods stock. P C Coldwell Jr bought half interest in Alexander's Men's Store. James Spivy Badgett, 82, died last Thursday night.
In a 1932 note, Lowell Watson and Melvin Anderson are reported to have bought the Palace Barber Shop. Other local items include the death of Paul Robert, 46, and school graduates Lytle Biggerstaff and Louise Gladden. Robert Holmes opens a sandwich shop, and A J Houston advertises meat, lard, beans, syrup, flour, and coffee with prices.
Anita Vestal is valedictorian and Kathleen Mitchell is saluatorian of the senior class. Virgil Ford bought the Ford chick hatchery from his father R D Ford. Miss Genevieve Davidson and W L Gordon were married March 27. Tommie Chenoweth to present piano pupils in recital May 21 including Betty Jo Pierce Betty Jean Brice Katie Kincaid Arvin Vestal Robert and James German Patty Everheart Martha and Foucheaux Vestal Ann LaRoe Betty Joe Hamilton Azilee Smith Lonnie Myrick Alice Taylor Betty Jo Arney Billie Jean Wallace Eugene and James Reeves Ralph Sanders died Tuesday.
Whitewright High School seniors prepare for Baccalaureate services May 28 at 8 p m at First Methodist Church with music by Mrs Paul Ryan Mrs Ralph Judd Rev Dale Gore and others. commencement follows May 29 in the high school gym at 8 p m with processional salutatory and valedictory addresses, diplomas presented by Dick Walker and biographical sketches in The Reflector.

The Friday Literary Club hosted a casual winners-losers party at Mrs. S H White's home. No formal program, just refreshments and conversation. The club awarded the annual high school citizenship prize to Miss Becky Blanton, with her mother Mrs Earl Blanton attending as a guest. The club adjourned until October with hostesses named.
Savoy hosts annual exstudents reunion on Sunday June 18 at the new school building with lunch for registrants.
The county highway committee backed a June 20 election for a 1 750 000 right of way bond issue. The Commissioners Court called the poll after a thin defeat in the second vote, urging immediate resubmission. The panel lists Worth Campbell Denison Jim Rivers Sherman Clint Hennig John Biggerstaff Whitewright and others from Tioga Bells Tom Bean and nearby towns. The May election gave 66 137 percent approval, just shy of the 66 67 percent requirement.
The Adult No. 2 T. A. Class of Bethel Baptist Church hosted a house warming for Mr. and Mrs. Mack Williams last week. Rev. Charles Pierce led the invocation and many friends joined the gathering. Refreshments were served to a broad group including John Jarvis Clifton Sanderson Weldon Bartley Johnnie England Bob Cawthon Sonny Gosnell Tom Barnes Mike Bartley Regina Bartley Tanya Jarvis Trina Jarvis Patsy Williams and Ted Williams. A gift from the training union class was presented to the couple.
Rev. Dale Gore leads Sunday activities with 9:00 Sunday School at the Nursing Home, 9:55 Bible study, 11:00 worship, 5:15 Primary and Jr. Choirs, 6:00 training. Weekday events include circles, Girls' Auxiliary, Sunbeams, Deacons’ meeting, RA, prayer meeting, and choir rehearsal.
Rev. George Topper leads services with Sunday School at 10:00, morning worship at 11:00, and a Baccalaureate service at 8:00. Choir rehearsal is at 7:30. Annual Conference meets in Dallas Monday through Wednesday.

Pastor Mrs. Janice Hall announces the weekly program with Sunday School at 9 45 a m and worship service at 7 15 p m on Sundays. Wednesday prayer meeting is set for 7 30 p m each week.
