Walter Lee Bunch of Sulphur Springs becomes manager of the Whitewright sub-district of Lone Star Gas Company succeeding Richard Riggins who moved to Plano. Bunch has six and a half years with Lone Star at Sulphur Springs and will relocate with his wife and three children Rose Ann Danny Lee and Ray after school ends. Homer Ryan remains as assistant to the new manager.
Congress completed action on the second farm bill of the session. The House passed the compromise bill 304 to 59 and the Senate had approved it the day before. It goes to President Eisenhower for signature as a substitute for the vetoed first bill. The measure includes a soil bank program paying up to 1.2 billion dollars a year to withdraw cropland from production.
Donna Wetzel, Brown-eyed from Whitewright, vies for Area V Sweetheart May 26 in Denton, joined by Alice May Ayres and her mother Mrs. Wetzel. The winner advances to state contest in Dallas in July against nine area champions.
Richard Keith, five, secured a seven year deal with the I Love Lucy producers, earning between 300 and 1000 dollars weekly. The boy has worked professionally for two years while his parents once shooed him from the house when he pounded on drums. Also note: Karakul sheep breeding records extend back six millennia.
A brush-arbor revival at Kentuckytown Baptist Church begins Friday night and runs to June 3. Prayer services at 7 45 p m with preaching at 8 p m daily. Evangelist Bill Self and singer Lawrence Cox lead, with pastor Charles Taylor. All are Decatur Baptist College students.
Miss Gladys B. Ray of Austin has signed a contract with The Naylor Company to publish her book Murder at the Corners. Her previous work Legends of Red River Valley has become a collector's item. She holds a bachelor’s from Curry College and Boston University and has taught at several Texas high schools.

The annual rabies vaccination for dogs is set for 1 p m on Tuesday May 29. Dog owners should bring their pets to the alley behind Walker Pharmacy for shots. In Whitewright many dogs remain unvaccinated despite a city ordinance and license fee.
Grayson voters face the shortest primary ballot of the century on July 28 due to a 1954 law moving most county offices to four year terms. The ballot lists incumbents Rayburn Hughes Valughan Dowdy New man Davidson Blanton Wilsford Sturdy Hestand Spalding Davis Walker Martin Stamps Carroll Harp Barton Everheart Slagle and two incumbents not seeking re election D B Hardeman and Murray Nance Jr.
University of Texas students began finals as chimes rang from the tower with tunes including School Days Finiculi Finicula Just Before the Battle Mother Nobody Knows the Trouble Ive Seen Gloomy Sunday Swing Low Sweet Chariot Oh God Our Help in Ages Past Taps and The Funeral March. A new U S Air Force interceptor can destroy the largest bomber.
The eighth grade at the elementary school will hold graduation at 9 30 a m Friday in the gym. Rev John Polk will give the address. Music by Alice Ayres and a solo by Carol Bush. Valedictorian Donald Wood 96 6 average salutatorian Doris Burchfield 96 03. Other seniors with 90 plus include David Blackerby Louise Vestal Ruth Elaine Williams Carol Turner Louisa Lackey Dan Hennig.
A national survey for Catholic Digest shows 42 percent of whites favor segregation and 48 percent favor integration. Northern whites lean toward integration while Southern whites favor segregation. education also influences views.
Baccalaureate Sunday night at the First Methodist Church honors Whitewright High School graduates of 25 with ushers and a full program. Commencement June 1 in the gym features diplomas presented by the school board president and remarks from C A Roberts and S T Montgomery Jr.
An alphabetical roll call of church members is set for Sunday morning at the First Methodist Church of Whitewright. The pastor will lead, then give a ten minute Communion Day meditation titled We've a Story To Tell. Holy Communion will follow with Conference Sunday on June 3. No Vespers at 5:00 p.m. due to the High School Baccalaureate Service at 8:00 p.m.
The May 16 meeting at Mrs. Holloway’s yard saw Den 2 collect dues and work on a club house from scrap lumber. May 23 den members, led by Denner Joe, pledged allegiance, urged 50c reregisters, and finished a second club house with drinks, a fire, and marshmallows.
