Walter Lee Bunch Named Gas Manager in Whitewright Sub-district

Walter Lee Bunch of Sulphur Springs becomes manager of the Whitewright sub-district of Lone Star Gas Company succeeding Richard Riggins who moved to Plano. Bunch has six and a half years with Lone Star at Sulphur Springs and will relocate with his wife and three children Rose Ann Danny Lee and Ray after school ends. Homer Ryan remains as assistant to the new manager.

Second Farm Bill Goes to President

Congress completed action on the second farm bill of the session. The House passed the compromise bill 304 to 59 and the Senate had approved it the day before. It goes to President Eisenhower for signature as a substitute for the vetoed first bill. The measure includes a soil bank program paying up to 1.2 billion dollars a year to withdraw cropland from production.
