Coast Guard Asked To Police Texoma After Boating Accidents

The Lake Texoma Association invites the U S Coast Guard to help curb rising boating deaths at Texoma. President R A McDerby says private boaters drive most accidents and asks for a patrol presence to enforce safety rules. Since 1944 Texoma has 69 drownings. five deaths this year involve boats. Main causes include lack of life preservers and failure to wear them.

Getting On Ballot Is Expensive In Grayson County

Grayson County candidates will share 13 642 50 in fees to get on the July and August Democratic primary ballot. The cost is split by office and factors like tenure and salary, with figures ranging from 1 275 for the 15th District Court race to 50 for several minor posts.

Billie Glen Earnheart Promoted at Monsanto Chemical

Billie Glen Earnheart promoted to new superintendent of Maintenance at Monsanto Chemical Company in Texas City. A Texas A&M mechanical engineering graduate, he previously served as zone supervisor and as a captain in World War II in the European theater. He joined Monsanto in February 1947 as a supervising engineer and lives at 724 Fifth Ave North.

May 31 Final Date For Transfer of School Children

S. T. Montgomery Jr., superintendent of Whitewright schools, asks The Sun to remind readers that May 31 is the final date for transferring scholastics between districts. He believes most transfers are complete but warns some may be overlooked and should be settled with him or the County Superintendent before the deadline.

Texas wheat acreage cut noted in 1957 allotment

The Agriculture Department allocated Texas 4,149,071 acres for the 1957 wheat crop, a reduction of 78,065 acres from 1956. Texas ranked fourth among states, behind Kansas North Dakota and Oklahoma, in the national 55,000,000 acre wheat allotment with adjustments based on ten year trends and other factors. Soil Conservation Field Day Planned for Van Alstyne

The third annual Soil Conservation Field Day for the Van Alstyne Work Unit of the Collin Soil Conservation District will be held Friday May 18 starting at 9 a.m. The program includes a tour from the Van Alstyne cotton yard via school buses, demonstrations of soil protection practices and fertilization, a discussion of flood prevention, an address by Doc Ruhman WBAP Fort Worth, and a barbecue dinner at the Joe Clarkson farm flood structure southeast of Van Alstyne. The event is sponsored by the Van Alstyne Chamber of Commerce to promote prosperous agriculture.

J Carl Allred Dies at 59 in Bells Texas

Funeral services were held in Bells for J Carl Allred aged 59 who died at his home. He was born in Bells on September 17 1896 married to Beulah Moore in 1916. He served three terms as Grayson County tax assessor and is survived by his wife son Donald Rogers Allred two brothers a foster sister and a sister in law.

Free Polio Shots To Be Continued In Grayson County
