The Whitewright Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star was instituted Friday evening by Pat H. Boone of Littlefield with Mrs. O M Kissinger named worthy patron and Herman Bedford as associate patron. Grand officers included Pat H Boone Dr D G Rogers and Mrs Pat Boone with visitors from Ec tor Denison Sherman and Denison. The event drew about one hundred visitors from Ector Sherman Denison Bonham and Shawnee Okla with lilies lilies and pe tunias adorning the hall.

Farm program gets over one billion funding approved
The Senate approved by voice vote a bill providing 1,126,727,405 dollars for the government farm program for the year beginning July 1. Of this, 580,300,278 dollars goes to direct appropriations, 34,866,825 more than the House vote, with most of the remainder in loan authorizations. The measure goes to conference with the House to resolve differences.

New Mustering-Out Pay Deadline Fixed
World War II veterans have until Feb 3 1950 to apply for mustering-out pay. President Truman signed the extension into law, replacing an expired 1946 deadline. Eligible veterans receive 100 dollars for under 60 days with no overseas service, 200 dollars for over 60 days domestic service, and 300 dollars for overseas service.

M E Mike Winburn closed a deal last Friday with Jack Ross for the purchase of a grocery and service station on the Y and is now in charge. Ross bought the business months ago from Lum and Abner. Winburn, formerly with Lone Star Gas, sought work to stay active and plans to inflate tires with a hand pump if needed. Ross has not announced future plans.

Enterprise Baptist Church Home Coming Marks 59th Anniversary

Anti-Truman Forces Win In Convention
Texas Democrats at the state convention voted to bind their 23 presidential electors to party nominees while remaining uninstructed on nominations. The anti-Truman faction, led by Gov. Rev. James I. Logan resigns as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church effective June 30 after a year of service. He is a student at Austin College and will move to Sherman for further study.
