Dry Weather Hurts Texas Crop Outlook
The April rainfall was less than half normal in most of Texas and high winds harmed crops. Nearly half of the 3.83 million acres of wheat sown last fall were abandoned, and oats suffered from February freezes. U.S. winter wheat output is down with 337.5 million bushels forecast nationally. Hay prospects declined as dry weather kept conditions at 68 percent of normal on May 1.
