Sherman Texas May 16 Judge J A L Wolfe prominent Sherman lawyer died suddenly at his home 1002 South Crockett street at 1 05 o clock Tuesday afternoon after returning from work Heart trouble from which he suffered recently caused his death He was born near Booneville Missouri and lived in Sherman for 33 years He was president of the Sherman Loan and Trust Company Gordonville and Hagerman Banks director Grayson Building and Loan and Commercial National Bank of Sherman General counsel for the Texas State Medical Association an elder of Central Presbyterian Church and trustee of church properties He is survived by his wife and a daughter Mrs Wilbur Carter

Oegond Pure Food Fair Opens With Baby Show

Marlin Mayor Killed In Bridge Collapse
Waco Texas May 17 The list of known victims from the Marlin bridge disaster stands at four including Mayor Frank M Stallworth and Dr W H Allen of Marlin Mrs Clara Belle Mose ly of Beaumont and B A Briggs seven year old son of Clayton Briggs of Marlin. Rescue squads saved about 20 to 25 others on the bridge as flood waters carried it away Rev W H Knickerbocker of the First Methodist Church Marlin swam a mile or more after the collapse and was later rescued. J T L Jones of the Bato Oil Co rode the timbers for an hour before recovery.

Van Alstyne Texas announces bids will be opened May 24 for the construction of the sewer system. Bonds totaling $30 000 were approved at a special election last October. Mrs L O Lackey and her children visited relatives in Commerce and Fairlie Friday and Saturday.
Majestic Largest Ocean Liner Reaches American Coast
The Majestic, 56,000 tons, arrives off Sandy Hook on the last leg of its maiden Atlantic voyage. Officials expect it to surpass speed records, aiming to exceed 25 knots with potential gains to reach four more knots. Built in Germany as the Bismarck, the liner was later sold to England and converted to an oil burner. It can accommodate about 4,100 passengers.

The Texas Press Association held its 43rd annual meeting in Denton attracting about four hundred newspaper people and families. Visitors enjoyed a full program with a goat barbecue, tours of the county, and the new 2400-seat C I A auditorium hosting the evening program. Whitewright attendees included Mary Rena Penn Estelle Montgomery and Mildred Cantrell, who study at local institutions.

Death penalty verdicts in Texas tied to two murders
Austin May 17 One death penalty was affirmed and another reversed and remanded by the state court of criminal appeals. Clemente Apollinar, convicted in Bexar County for murdering a 13 year old boy, had his sentence upheld while Joe Hall's conviction for the murder of Bob James in Grayson County was reversed and remanded after transfer from Fannin County. The State said Hall and a partner confessed to the killing for money.
