Mother and son separated seek each other across states
The elder Echels lived in Virginia and after their separation the mother longed for her son's return. Hughey Echels, as a child, wandered to what is now Oklahoma before statehood. He left his father at fourteen and moved often, never giving up the quest for his mother who may be somewhere in the United States. They later learned their paths had crossed multiple times in their travels. The mother once neared Texas, but one day’s delay prevented the reunion.
