Miss Margaret Matthews aged about 23 was arrested in Denison on theft charges for allegedly taking $1000 from Mrs. Fay Davis. The money, found rolled in a sack, was recovered after a police officer offered a 50 50 split, and the case was filed in justice court.
D L Payne, held in Lubbock County jail for grand jury action in Crosby County on charges linked to the courthouse square shooting that killed Naud Rippey and J Sweden yesterday in Crosbyton. Payne had traveled there as a principal witness in earlier trials. Rippey was shot six times and Sweden twice. George Jarvis and Miss Denton wed last Saturday. groom is son of Mr and Mrs P Jarvis and bride is daughter of Mr and Mrs John Denton.
Mr and Mrs Joe Wallace visited relatives in Sherman on Monday, according to a brief society note. The outing highlights family ties in the region.
Hot Springs Arkansas endures a severe storm with a mountain torrent destroying the business district. The Marquette Hotel and many buildings were ruined by fire sparked after the flood. One seriously injured woman, Katie Christian son, lies in hospital with a crushed skull.
The Grayson County Livestock Association votes a Pure-Bred Sire campaign May 23 to 25 with educational talks and live animal displays. The tour visits Pottsboro Bells Whitewright Tom Bean and Howe Friday May 25 with arrival and departure times listed.
Austin May 15. By a vote of 6 to 16 the Senate declined to adopt a resolution to restore citizenship to James E. Ferguson, the impeached former governor. The measure passed without discussion.
A demonstration of canning fruit and vegetables by steam pressure was given by Miss Dillard of Howe who has seven years of experience. Fannie Giles observed the event.
At Edgewood Texas on May 14 the partially finished Methodist Church floor collapsed during a cornerstone ceremony. Scores of men women and children fell into the basement with a dozen more sustaining minor injuries. Dr B B Brandon treated many of the injured as physicians from nearby towns aided local doctors.
Edison told the Federal Trade Commission that future education will rely on the movie screen replacing the blackboard and textbooks. He cited experiments showing pictures can teach chemistry to children, asserting 85 percent of knowledge is absorbed by the eye and motion pictures are fully effective for learning.
Mrs Robert Sears hosted a luncheon last Monday honoring her niece Lucille Pritchett a 1923 graduate. Covers were set for Elizabeth May Katherine Vaughn Marion Barbee Minnie Willis and Lillie Ross fellow members of the graduating class. Pritchett gave embroidered linen handkerchiefs to her friends.
A cyclonic wind storm struck Leonard Texas at about 3 a.m. demolishing a large ironclad warehouse and causing minor damage to surrounding property. No injuries reported. Local authorities investigated the structure and noted the storm’s severity.
Gov. Pat M. Neff called the Thirty-Eighth Legislature to a second special session at 10 am to align state maintenance appropriations with projected revenues and keep the state on a cash basis, with other matters the governor deems appropriate under Texas law and constitution.

The Alpha Kappa Club of junior and senior high girls met Friday afternoon to welcome new members from the coming junior class and to elect officers for next year. Margaret Everheart was named president with Kathryn Montgomery as vice president, Maxie Echols secretary and treasurer, Beatrice Bennett sergeant at arms, Grace Vestal reporter. The retiring officers upheld high standards and the new officers pledge to do likewise.
Miss Florence Lutz public reader and dean of Boston School of Expression appears in a free recital in Whitewright on Monday evening May 28 at 8 15 under the Masqueraders of the high school. The public is invited.
Whitewright public schools plan a May twenty fifth closing with exams this week and commencement next week. Miss Martha Bow as Queen of the May Day Fete will preside while proceeds from one cent votes total 73 dollars and 80 cents.
In Denton Texas on May 15 heavy rain wind and hail caused property and crop damage exceeding 100000 dollars. The northwest area suffered severe losses with grain beaten down and crops wiped out while corn and cotton suffered damage requiring replanting. The southeast section saw a high straight wind wrecking a residence nine barns and many outbuildings along a four to five mile wide hail belt.
The Sun notes letters from rural correspondents arrived too late for this week’s issue. Letters must reach the office by Tuesday each week to ensure publication, as Thursday print requires earlyweek submissions for proper typesetting.
Sherman Texas May 14 The War Department confirmed John Parker son of E F Parker of Sherman to West Point He is a Sherman High School graduate and a current student at Austin College The appointment was made several weeks ago and was officially confirmed Monday
The Whitewright business section reports a crowd of farmers and families for a free moving picture show provided by the Chamber of Commerce. Cash gifts rise to ten dollars total with ten attendees each receiving a dollar. A big bargain advertisement promises staple goods and special offers for May 19th Saturday.
G J Yeargin a Missouri Kansas & Texas Railroad brakeman was released on a 5000 bond after arrest in Denison Texas on request from Bryan County Oklahoma in connection with the death of C B Chipease run over by a Katy fast freight at Durant last week. He will accompany his lawyers to Durant for a preliminary hearing.
Austin Texas May 16 The death penalty assessed against C E Gaines Dallas County in connection with the murder of G W Street during a post office robbery at Dallas in 1921 was affirmed by the Court of Criminal Appeals when it over ruled the appellant s motion for re hearning
