Grayson County Sheriff Blanton Hospitalized After Heart Attack

Sheri Ge W Woody Blanton of Grayson County remains in satisfactory condition at Sherman Community Hospital after an apparent heart attack at his Denison home Sunday. Doctors report ongoing cardiac monitoring and say full damage extent will take days to determine. Blanton has served 20 years as sheriff and was named Texas Outstanding Sheriff in 1961. A special Sun edition next week will honor the 1969 graduating seniors.

Whitewright City Council holds long Tuesday session

The Whitewright City Council met over three hours discussing sewer needs with engineer Paul D. Gregory, telephone service improvements with West Texas Telephone, and city cleanup plans. Spence outlined steps to address complaints, operator conduct, and upcoming toll free service. Additional actions included bidding on city lot sales, garbage burial, unclaimed lots, and a June 8 to 14 cleanup week with Chamber input.

Whitewright Council hires firm to study sewer upgrades

Whitewright city council voted Tuesday to hire Paul D. Gregory & Associates of Fort Worth for a preliminary sewer study. Gregory says growth requires upgraded capacity and estimates total costs around fifty thousand dollars, with fees about ten percent of project cost.

Raymond Adams principal of Bells High announces 1968 69 valedictorian Johnny Boatright with 89.25 four year average and salutatorian Pamela French with 88.75. Riding Club Plans May June Events and Rodeo

Members of the Whuite Wright Riding Club met Thursday to map forthcoming activities. A Play Day is slated for May 24 followed by a Relay Race in Windom on June 5 and a Horse Show on June 8. The club also schedules a big Rodeo for June 1920-21.

Blood in Bells mailbox sparks frog gag murder hoax

A Bells resident found a bloody cellophane package in her mailbox on Monday. Deputy sheriff Charles Weaver removed the item and suspects a crude prank as several frogs were found murdered inside the mail. The attackers remain unknown and at large.

Whitewright Public Library sponsors a special refreshment day to fund operations for the coming year. Coffee cake and pie will be served during two sessions 9 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. All coffee lovers and pie and cake eaters are invited to attend.

Whitewright High School announces the class of 1969 honor graduates. Valedictorian Rodney Lee Nicely and salutatorian John Riley Farley each held multiple student leadership roles in FFA Beta Club and school publications. Rodney will study chemistry at Austin College while John pursues accounting at North Texas State University.

Grayson County approves travel and budget amendments

Grayson County Commissioners Court met May 22 at 10 00 am approving travel expense amendments in the 1969 budget including 43.00 for travel owed and 239 50 remaining balance for travel funds The court also approved reimbursements for transportation to Dr Ray Stephens and Dr Andrew Jensen for recent obstetrics and infant care meetings and noted Lone Star Gas The group declared a 28 cent quarterly dividend payable June 9 1969 to shareholders of record May 23 1969 from the conference fund of the Maternity and Infant Care Grant Fund The county budget for the Denison Sherman Grayson County Health Department for the new fiscal year starting July 1 1969 was approved

Roberts announces $25000 grant for Denison MSA planning

U S Representative Ray Roberts announced a 25000 grant under the Urban Planning Assistance Program to support comprehensive growth planning in the Sherman Denison standard metropolitan statistical area. The U S Department of Housing and Urban Development approves the grant covering two thirds of total costs for two months.
