The faculty selects seven outstanding seniors for the Hall of Fame and announces the list with the yearbook. This year Pamela Edgington won the Balfour Award, the faculty’s top honor for scholarship and leadership.
Carter a former North Texas fly editor takes the Whitewright Sun top edit post on May 21. He is a 1971 NTSU graduate with a journalism history and education B.S. and has served as a Marine journalist. He and wife Margaret plan permanent residence in Whitewright.
The Whitewright Sun bids farewell to the Cayce era and previews a shift under editor Owen Carter. It lists staff changes including Dolores Meek in multiple roles, Mrs. A. R. McMurry as reporter, and new Eleven-Fifty Publications hires Tom Kelley, George Kimbrough, Chris Gordon, and Gwen Skipworth.
Grayson County College hosts a 1971 Senior Banquet titled An Evening in Venice. Juniors honor the Seniors with a formal banquet, providing a romantic backdrop and festive atmosphere for the evening.
Thirty-one seniors with sponsors David Johnson Mrs. Joe Mays and Mrs. Bobby Edgington will travel to Texoma Lodge Durant Oklahoma on Thursday May 13 for Senior Day activities including boating skiing bicycling horseback riding swimming and dining. This is the final extracurricular activity before Dead Week May 17 21 and finals May 25 26. Cards will be distributed May 27, with commencements at 8 p.m. in the Methodist Church.
Whitewright Junior High School released honor roll findings this week led by valedictorian Billy Jester and salutatorian Donna Baker. Other named graduates include Cindy Donaghey, Rebecca Hanes and Jay Jackson, as announced by Supt. S. Montgomery.
Senior Honor Graduates David L. Johnson announced the 1970-71 list with Kathy Morris valedictorian and Holly Faison salutatorian. Morris, daughter of Robert and Morris, earned 93.77 GPA. Faison, daughter of R M Faison, earned 93.32. Both are four year Beta Club members.
