Funeral services were held for Arthur V. St. John 77 a retired farmer from Pilot Grove who died Sunday morning. Burial was in Pilot Grove Cemetery. He was born March 13 1884 in Woodbury Tennessee and married Minnie Matthews in Westminster in 1910. Survivors include his wife two daughters and one grandchild.

Lee Wood Lyons of 5554 Goodwin Dallas died in a Dallas hospital last Wednesday after a heart condition. Born in Glasgow Kentucky he grew up near Whitewright. He moved to Dallas in 1920 worked for Magnolia Petroleum Co until retirement two years ago. He served as a steward at Owenwood Methodist Church for 30 years and belonged to the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife a brother Oscar W Lyons Bells and a sister Lula Robbins Sherman.

Congress Passes 1.25 Wage Bill With Broad Coverage
Congress approved administration backed 1.25 per hour minimum wage measure by 64 to 28 in the Senate and 230 to 196 in the House. The bill extends coverage to about 3.6 million workers though laundry workers are excluded. The plan raises the current 1.00 wage to 1.15 in four months and to 1.25 two years later with new workers starting at 1.00 and reaching 1.25 in three steps over about 4 1 2 years.

First Lt. Kenneth L. Jones of Whitewright has been named commander of the Denison National Guard to succeed Capt. Richard Riggins who has transferred. Jones, a civil engineer with the State Highway Department at Sherman, has served since 1959 in Company B, 249th Armored Signal Battalion, 49th Armored Division. Riggins, of Carrollton, helped reorganize the battalion in 1946 after World War II service and will be stationed at Grand Prairie. Jones, an ROTC graduate of Texas A&M, is the son of Mr and Mrs Royce Jones of Whitewright.
