Whitewright’s Western Week capped Friday with king and queen crowns across grade levels. Parade from First Baptist Church to downtown featured standout floats and a large barbecue at the rodeo grounds attended by about 403. Rodeo winners and the Variety Show highlighted the event’s main attractions.

Productive Hereford cow twins again in Whitewright area
A prolific Hereford cow owned by Blackerby in Whitewright produced twins for the third time, adding to 12 calves in total from a ten year old cow. Neighbors estimate odds of three twin sets at about 10 000 to 1. The first twins were heifers, the second set were bulls, and last week two heifers arrived.

Cave named conservation farmer in Zone 5 near Whitewright
P Cave of the Ida Community has been named this year’s conservation farmer for Zone 5 covering Grayson County in the Upper Elm Red Soil and Water Conservation District. A district cooperator since 1950, he farms 194 acres with additional rented lands. He has completed his planned program on his own place and two rented farms, with about 70 percent on a third rented farm. He cleared 42 acres, developed 105 acres of improved pastures, and built three livestock ponds across his pastures, stocked with game fish for farm recreation.
