Whitewright High School runner Bill Polk set new East Texas Relays marks in the 110 yard dash 10.1 seconds and the 220 yard dash 22.1 seconds at East Texas State College Commerce He helped Whitewright place fourth with 10 points and will compete in Austin Texas Relays April 6 7. Polk is the son of Rev John W Polk and Mrs Polk and will be eligible to play football next season.
A Farmers Union meeting will be held at the agriculture building in the high school here at 7 30 p m next Thursday April 5. Bob Justice president of the Fannin County Farmers Union says farm problems will be discussed and questions may be raised. Everyone is invited.
The Texas Insurance Commission announced an overall seven percent rate cut for auto policies, saving Texas drivers about 9 million dollars annually. New rates apply to policies written May 1 and after, with fire theft comprehensive and collision costs expected to drop seven percent locally. Property damage and public liability rates may also see a slight reduction.

Harold Doss warns Saturday is the final day to purchase automobile and truck license plates at Whitewright city hall. By 2:30 p m yesterday he issued 495 car licenses and 75 truck licenses, with 25 truck plates left. He notes 700 car plates were received this year and urges timely purchase to avoid being plate-less after midnight Saturday.
Ralph Yarborough, 52, Austin lawyer, declares a third bid for Texas governor. He calls himself the first Democratic candidate this year and vows a truthful, dignified campaign free of mudslinging, aiming to restore honor in state government amid prior losses in 1952 and 1954 and a 1938 attorney general bid.
Miss Minnie Holland 67 of Sherman died Monday in Wichita Falls after a month long illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church Whitewright with Rev. Epting Cole and Williams presiding. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. She was born February 20 1889 in Fannin County and survived by four sisters and four brothers. She had lived in Sherman seven years and belonged to Bethel Baptist Church. Color blindness is sometimes called Daltonism.
The Chamber of Commerce board met with five of nine members and the membership chair Griffin Dollarhide Jr. present. They discussed adding members, parking space completion, Little League sponsorship plans, highway project delays, Katy depot paint, a Whitewright to Oak Hill Cemetery water line, and possible new industries and housing sites.

The Whitewright Public Schools will take a four day Easter break. Supt. S. T. Montgomery Jr. announced the district will dismiss Thursday afternoon and resume classes Tuesday morning.
Gov Allan Shivers charged Lyndon B Johnson’s name is being used to divide conservative voters. He rejected backing a Johnson tied to Rayburn supporters and urged a bold states rights stand. He aims to lead Texas Democrats if he wins the Dallas convention control May 22.
L L Wendell says the County Line Singing Convention will meet at 2 pm Sunday at Cannon with singers from outside the county expected and new songbooks possible. He invites both singers and listeners to attend and enjoy good singing.
