Easter Seal March Set to Begin in Whitewright

Whitewright FFAers Sweep to Wins in Sulphur Springs

Whitewright FFA members participated in the 1971 Northeast Texas Junior Livestock Show in Sulphur Springs March 19 and 20. Swine judging produced blue and red ribbons for gilts and sows while steer events saw blue ribbons and class placements for several members. Allan Harper earned blue and red ribbons with Hereford and limo heifers, and the beef exhibit received honorable mention for the Good Housekeeping Award. The group acknowledged sponsors and locals for support and plans to enter the Leonard Junior Livestock Show.

Netpa Meeting Held at Longview Convention

The North and East Texas Press Convention met in Longview at the Contessa Inn with panel discussions and journalism workshops. Distinguished speakers included U S Representative Ray Roberts, two state representatives, and Lieutenant Governor Ben Barnes. City works toward new fire truck purchase in Whitewright

Last Saturday three o'clock four fourteen members of the City Volunteer Fire Department met with Fire Chief Homer Ryan to discuss buying a new fire truck. The chassis will be delivered by Wichita Fire Equipment Company in about six weeks with 120 days to install the tank and equipment, ready around late August. Cost is 15000 dollars through Edwards Chevrolet Company. Cub Scout Den 1 of Pack 5 held rifle and kite activities on Bill May farm with 22 kites airborne at one time. Prizes were awarded for highest and best flying kites. ribbons given to all. A later date for the planned weiner roast was announced due to a cool front.

The Whitewright Sun changes ownership and management effective March 24, 197L. Elevene Fifty Publications, led by Miriam Larsen and aided by Jack Oliver, takes over from Cayce family publishers. Cayce members stay temporarily as new staff prepare to assume full leadership.
