The Sun circulated a questionnaire to city council candidates this week to inform voters about their views and goals for Whitewright. Robert Sale Marshall Hasty J B Thornhill and John Curtis completed the forms.
Readable excerpts from candidate responses show Robert Sales LeRoy Duquette John Curtis and J B Thornhill pledging city cooperation, improved water and sewer services, and beautification. Curtis emphasizes prudent spending and voter involvement while Duquette joins civic projects and services in Whitewright Savoy Bells and Ector areas.
Arthur S. Taylor appointed Vice President Telephone Operations for the Continental System overseeing 65 million telephones in 42 states, Alaska, parts of Canada and the Caribbean Islands. He previously led Continental Southwest Division and California properties after a career starting with California Interstate in 1939.
Five generations of the Thomas family gathered at Whitewright Nursing Home to meet Mrs. Mary Mollie Jones as Jennifer Thomas of El Paso visited. The lineage includes Rebecca the mother, Betty Price of Savoy the grandmother, O L Pig Jones the great grandfather of Whitewright, and Jo nes the great great grandmother.
A New Life Mission unfolds at United Methodist Church Whitewright starting Sunday March 28 through Friday April 2 with nightly services at 7 30 led by Rev Earnest Walt guest minister from Celeste He will preach at Sunday morning worship A Youth Forum starts 6 45 each evening The Whitewright Marvin United Methodist pastor is Rev William E Grisham A nursery will be provided and all are invited to attend
Mrs R D Maddox chair man of the Easter Seal March announced a drive starting in Whitewright on April 5 with High School Beta Honor Club members assisting. They will canvass door to door around 4 p m after school Mrs Tom Brookshear helps with arrangements.
Whitewright FFA members participated in the 1971 Northeast Texas Junior Livestock Show in Sulphur Springs March 19 and 20. Swine judging produced blue and red ribbons for gilts and sows while steer events saw blue ribbons and class placements for several members. Allan Harper earned blue and red ribbons with Hereford and limo heifers, and the beef exhibit received honorable mention for the Good Housekeeping Award. The group acknowledged sponsors and locals for support and plans to enter the Leonard Junior Livestock Show.
Both City and School elections occur Saturday April 3 at City Hall polls open 8 a.m. close 7 p.m. The public is urged to vote.

Last Saturday three o'clock four fourteen members of the City Volunteer Fire Department met with Fire Chief Homer Ryan to discuss buying a new fire truck. The chassis will be delivered by Wichita Fire Equipment Company in about six weeks with 120 days to install the tank and equipment, ready around late August. Cost is 15000 dollars through Edwards Chevrolet Company. Cub Scout Den 1 of Pack 5 held rifle and kite activities on Bill May farm with 22 kites airborne at one time. Prizes were awarded for highest and best flying kites. ribbons given to all. A later date for the planned weiner roast was announced due to a cool front.
The Whitewright Sun changes ownership and management effective March 24, 197L. Elevene Fifty Publications, led by Miriam Larsen and aided by Jack Oliver, takes over from Cayce family publishers. Cayce members stay temporarily as new staff prepare to assume full leadership.
