Tragic Death of Dr E P Montgomery in Whitewright
The June 1916 Whitewright Daily Sun reports the death of Dr. E P Montgomery who was struck by a southbound Katy freight train while returning from a call at 9 30 am. The crossing near the old mill gave a clear view of approaching trains and the driver may have misapplied controls in a sudden danger. The item also notes Prosperity Week celebrations and a community prize contest offering a $75 Victrola with coupons attached to local ads.
