Whitewright Independent School District invites residents to visit during Public School Week March 3 to 7 led by Supt S T Montgomery. An open house is set for 7 30 Tuesday night March 21 at the Grade School Auditorium with teachers available to chat and student work on display.
J M Wilson Jr of Floydada urges Texans to tour campuses during Public Schools Week to support teachers and show approval for the tax funded system. He says parental example encourages discipline at home and in school, inviting all interested persons to visit.
Whitewright election filings show one council seat lacking a candidate as of press time. Incumbents Sonny Smith and J B Thornhill had filed for re election, with Chester Slaughter's seat still open and no announced plans from him. If no third candidate files, a write in vote could decide the seat or the council may appoint if no write in results.
Curtis A Curtis of Whitewright has been appointed deputy chief of staff for District 4 of the Veterans of World War I in Texas by the State Department. W L Caylor praised the appointment as a sign of diligent work and pledged effort to improve the barracks and district. Curtis will lead organizational work and the recruiting program for the district.
Mrs Bell of Route 2 Whitewright suffered deep knee lacerations and a bruised chest when her car went off a bridge near the Ida Community and plunged into a creek. She was taken to Sherman Community Hospital in non life threatening condition. Patrolman Bill Jones reported the vehicle flipped over the bridge railing into the creek below.
Pete Wyrick joined a mock wedding at Whitewright High School as a faux groom to a bride resembling Clint Hennig. The P T A Comedy Time fundraiser drew crowds, with pre wedding entertainment by Clyde McMurray and guests like Tiny Tim. Proceeds benefit the school, and the spoof included a large cast of local residents and kindergarten performers.
Whitewright Riding Club members wow 21 500 crowds at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo with drill team routines and a Saturday relay. The entourage included 63 fans from Whitewright and a Rodeo Sweetheart, while Jim Nabors attended as a special guest at the Saturday performances. Exhibitors from across Texas and 35 states entered 16 000 plus items for record premiums over 233 000 dollars.

Whitewright FFA sends Randy Newman Ricky Ellison and Jerry Jester to Houston for a livestock judging contest judging beef cattle swine and sheep on muscling conformation and dressing percentage. The team placed outside the top ten but earned 828 points led by Newman with 311 points. Next contest is at Texas A&M University with appearances planned at Abilene Gainesville Log Lake and East Texas State.
The 1969 Easter Seal Drive begins in Whitewright with 27 local high school students door to door collecting for a $400 goal, led by Rodney Nicely. Mrs. R D Maddux notes Grayson County Easter Seal aid to 1,000+ disabled individuals, and lists county coordinators from Bells to Sadler across surrounding towns.
