McMurray Heads Whitewright United Fund Drive

Whitewright outlines 1969 United Fund Drive with new officers and directors elected at the annual meeting. Easter drive nears end as Whitewright seeks $400

Whitewright's Easter Sew Als Campaign runs to April 4 under Mrs. R. D. Maddux. By Tuesday afternoon $327.86 was raised with more gifts expected. The Whitewright Junior Beta Clubs began the drive with help from Mrs. J. A. Harper and Mrs. Pebble May.

Bells Sets March 29 Special School Election

Bells Independent School District Board set Saturday March 29 as election day to decide bonds totaling 150000 for upgrading and renovating existing buildings and building a new Vocational Building. Proceeds finance repairs to the Elementary School rest rooms lunchroom gymnasium and a central heating system. Local taxes may rise slightly but most voters would pay under five dollars yearly.

Baseball season underway with mothers' auxiliary meeting

A meeting of the Little League Mothers' Auxiliary is set for Friday March 21 at Firemen's Hall at 7 30 p m to plan the upcoming season and support the concession stand. A separate Pony League registration for all boys is scheduled for Thursday March 27 at Firemen's Hall at 7 p m.

Trenton election heats up as Griffith runs for Mayor

In Trenton the Saturday April 5 election shows a surge of candidates. Former Mayor Finis Griffith filed to challenge incumbent G S Vincent, who previously led the city from 1953 to 1961. Alderman candidates include Russ Lambert Ed Riley Junior Riley and Robert Moeore.

Presley Named to Board in Whitewright

Larry Presley, owner of Presley's Auto Parts in Whitewright, was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Dick Walker at the Whitewright school board meeting. The appointment was by unanimous consent after Walker's resignation. Presley will serve a one year term.

Burglars Strike Whitewright Cafe In Street Crime

Thieves hit Chris Cafe in downtown Whitewright after 10 p.m. Saturday, breaking into the cash box and a cigarette machine but failing to steal money. The only valuable item taken was a jewelry case with cigarette lighters and costume jewelry, which was dropped in the alley as the burglars fled.

Whitewright Riding Club shines at Grayson County Rodeo

Members of the Whitewright Riding Club competed in the Grayson County Junior College Rodeo at the Grayson County Coliseum near Howe. The relay team won Friday's race while Thursday's meet saw a near victory. Friday grand entry featured 21 riders. Relay and race crews listed with team members and sweethearts named. Membership drive ongoing with contact through Hootie Darwin.
