City Council Demands Police Chief Frye Resignation in Special Meeting
After a Tuesday Sun interview predicting resignation the Whitewright City Council in a special session fired Police Chief Jim Frye effective immediately, citing excessive car expenses and work misunderstandings while keeping him on payroll until July 1. The council also reorganized policing duties, set trash and sewer policies, and appointed a stand ing committee to streamline city government.

Forklift Overpass Collision Injures No One
A northbound truck on Highway 69 in Whitewright, four inches over height, struck Spruce Street overpass. The forklift toppled from the trailer hitting oncoming driver Mike Bartley, 18, who escaped injury. Ed Sisson, of Lubbock Masonry Contractors, received a citation for too high a load. Sherman patrol investigated. forklift partly slid off the trailer after impact.

Town and Country Club Members See Special Problems Program
Town and Country Club met at 10 a.m. Tuesday to discuss a “Facing Your Problems” program led by Mrs. A M Vestal and Mrs. Bill Riker with Mrs. H O Miller presiding in place of the president. The business covered the club’s city library work as a forklift incident damaged a 1964 Chevrolet driven by Bartley on Highway 69. The forklift struck the car after dragging on the truck, which was pulled from the trailer by a wrecker. Bartley’s car was severely damaged but operable.

Memorial services for Lt Col Skipworth held in Omaha
Memorial services were held Sunday in Omaha at Offutt Air Force Base for Lt Col Billy L. Skipworth. Chaplain A B Jamison officiated. Survivors include wife Irene Kent of Whitewright, son Tim, daughter Lynn, and sister Mrs Harrison French of Bells. No survivors were reported for the crash in the Pacific.

Eleven-Fifty Schedules Open House To Show New Printing Facilities
Eleven-Fifty Publications will host an open house at its Whitewright printing center Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Staff including Miriam Larsen publisher Jack Oliver vice-president and advertising manager O K Carter editor will guide visitors through the plant. Remodeling began in April adding new offices two darkrooms and offset printing equipment for newspapers and job printing. The Whitewright office employs 10 people and prints papers for Whitewright and Van Alstyne. Refreshments will be served.

Meador Earns M D Degree From Southwestern Medical School
John M. Meador of Whitewright receives a doctor of medicine degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. A 1963 Whitewright High School graduate, he studied at UT Austin, earned Dean's List honors, joined Sigma Nu, and later achieved Dean's List status at Southwestern. He received the F W Dye Foundation Scholarship and Phi Chi medical fraternity membership. He and his wife Connie Collier of Fort Worth plan an internship at University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

He outlined how a computer rates speeds and distances to match horses for desired balance, noting 2,000 and 10,000 horse measurements support the approach. Texas leads with 135,000 quarter horses. US totals include 680,000 quarter horses, 500,000 thoroughbreds, 500,000 standards, and 200,000 Appaloosas.
