Biggerstaff reports Whitewright's volunteer fire department unveiled a two ton 1971 Chevrolet equipped with a 250 gpm Champion pump, 500 gallon tank, auxiliary pump, 60 hp engine, 800 feet of double jacketed hose, two speed rear axle, and priced at 14,598.00. Fire Chief Homer Ryan says the unit boosts firefighting efficiency as the department moves to secure city insurance and interest costs.

Whitewright Class of 1943 Holds Reunion
The Whitewright High School Class of 1943 reunion was held Saturday June 26 1971 at the Fireman's Hall with 36 attendees and 17 members plus guests. Rev Leroy Martin gave the invocation and new officers were elected with Joan Brown president and John Biggerstaff secretary treasurer. A future three class reunion for 1942 1943 and 1944 is planned for the fourth Saturday in June 1973.

Independence Day Driving Toll Urges Texans to Drive Safely
Colonel Wilson B Spew of the Texas Department of Public Safety warned the July 4 holiday weekend could bring about 48 traffic deaths in Texas with hundreds to possibly over a thousand injuries and millions in damage across the period from Friday morning July 2 to Monday midnight July 3. He urged Texans to obey safety laws, avoid fatigue, and not drive while drowsy.

Sherman crisis center opens for night listening calls
The Crisis Intervention Center in Sherman began operating to provide a night long listening service for people with problems from life crises to loneliness. Call 893-4636 between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. since opening June 4th the center has answered about 50 calls.

New dumping facility to open on July

W N Pierson received a 50 year pin and certificate at a June 24 Masonic Lodge No 167 meeting. Community Public Service employees led by Clint Henning installed new officers Milton Simpson worshipful master Joe Canafas senior warden Leon Scott junior warden James Gosnell treasurer Lmory Christian secretary Joe Bodine chaplain Manuel Alexander senior deacon Jim Robinson junior deacon Robert Sale senior steward Jefferson Williams junior steward Floyd Flowers tiler. Secretary Russell Summers retired after 25 years and received a plaque. Mrs Summers also given a gift. John J Bean guest speaker and former Grand Master in 1960. Bean is superintendent of the Sonic Home and School at Port Worth. Bean presented Pierson with a 50 4 car service pen. Several Masonic Home students attended.

District 4-H dresses revue set for Six Flags day
The 1971 District 4-H Dress Revue is planned for July at Six Flags Over Texas as part of District 4 4-H Day. About 1,000 4-H’ers from 19 counties are expected. Elizabeth Peabody will narrate at 10:30 a.m. in the Southern Palace. 54 girls compete. The four senior winners advance to the State 4-H Dress Revue in October in Dallas. National and local figures include Mrs. Tom Joyce Cunningham of Denton and State Fair of Texas director Elizabeth Peabody. Also, Whitewright Lodge No. 167 will meet at 8:00 p.m. with Vernon Beckham as speaker.

Whitewright Fire Dept Logs Three Calls This Week
The Whitewright Volunteer Fire Dept reported three calls this past week. A trash fire at the Red Rice home caused no damage. A grass fire at the Maggie DeHoney home Friday at 3 45 p m also caused no damage. Saturday evening a grass fire on the Mac Williams farm went out of control briefly before the new tuck was t ent and the fire was brought under control.
