Franklin Wins At Opryland Fiddler Contest Prize Belts
Larry Franklin of Whitewright placed second in the Fifth Annual Grand Masters Champion Fiddlers at Opryland U S A Nashville. He earned prize money and a belt buckle from Porter Wagoner as a sponsor event by Country Music Association and Grand Ole Opry. His wife Joyce and sister attended. Commerce Texas will host the National Collegiate Fiddler's Festival on Thursday June 17 at East Texas State University with about 30 fiddlers and 1200 dollars in prize money.

200 Club Hears Choir at First United Methodist Church
Members of the 200 Club heard the youth choir perform the cantata A One Hundred Per Cent Chance of Rain at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Bob Bryan gave the invocation. Mrs. Hugh Hunter led a brief meeting and Robert Warren noted the ceiling work finished. Plans for a covered dish dinner, a variety program and craft classes were discussed. Refreshments were provided by the youth choir and sponsors. A cash gift from Mrs. Ruby Childress was acknowledged.

Whitewright Chamber Plans July 4 Celebration Cleanup
The Whitewright Chamber of Commerce mapped a downtown cleanup for July 4 and finalized plans for a 200th birthday era celebration. Events include a town worship service at the park, a park picnic, historical costume contest, art show, sword of civic prizes, and a grand prize savings bond.
Deaths Louis Durham in Whitewright
Louis H. Durham, 67, of Whitewright died Thursday afternoon in Sharman hospital. Services were at Earnheart Funeral chapel at 3:30 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Bob Bryan and Rev. W.R. Murley officiating. Burial in Oak Hill cemetery. Born November 2, 1908 in Headrick Oklahoma, he married Brinlee in Anna on January 1, 1938. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Whitewright and a farmer. Survived by his wife, two sons, one daughter, three brothers, one sister, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services conducted at Earnheart Funeral chapel with Rev. Houston Garner of Hebron Baptist church officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill. Mrs Partridge died Wednesday afternoon in a Whitewright nursing home on June 9, 1976. Born September 10, 1883 in Amity Arkansas she married Lewis E Partridge December 22 1903 in Amity. She was a Baptist church member. Survived by one son three daughters 12 grandchildren 27 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren.
