Death Claims Veteran Lawman H. B. Everheart

H B Everheart a longtime Whitewright constable and fixture in Grayson County law enforcement died Tuesday June 22 1976 at Whitewright Nursing Home at age octogenarian He began as constable in 1942 and was repeatedly elected serving through the bicentennial year He was survived by his wife two brothers and other relatives Services set for Friday at 10 30 a m at Barnheart Funeral Chapel with burial at Wittatoe Cemetery Pallbearers named Don Neal Wallace Wilson Jim Carraway Odell Carraway Clyde Robinson and Charlie Ayres The family will receive visitors at the Don Neal home and at the funeral chapel He recalled tough days but kept a calm deputylike presence across Whitewright and the Grand Avenue area He was renowned for his knowledge and love of the community and is remembered as a Whitewright tradition

Bryants Graduate with Honors at Texas A&M

Mr and Mrs James Colum Bryant Jr recently graduated cum laude from Texas A&M University. Mrs Bryant earned a BS in Curriculum and Instruction with a certificate in Special Education, and Mr Bryant earned a BS in Agriculture Economics. They reside in Durant Oklahoma where he works for American Packing Company.

Baptist Auction Nets $200 for Youth Trip Support

The First Baptist church held a slave auction last week raising about $200. Youths did paintings yardwork and house cleaning to fund their Glorieta trip while an ice cream social drew attendees. A Youth Adult Choir picnic is planned Friday at Bonham State Park and a Saturday cleanup, run by youths, honors adult supporters.

T&C Club Goes on Annual Picnic

The Town and Country club held its annual family picnic on June 17 at Leonard Park in Gainsville. Sixteen members and guests attended as they enjoyed eating visiting games and swimming. The Frank Buck Zoo was the main attraction for the children.

200 Club Changes Regular Meeting Date

Mrs Hugh Hunter presided over a Friday meeting with 28 members present. The club accepted two paintings by Phyllis Earnheart, gifted by Phillip Earnheart, and cash gifts from Mrs Kate Fields and W D Williams. Bessie Maddux was named planning chair for the July 4 event with Fay Vesta Lorene Hasler and Vera Chesser on the committee. The club changed meeting day to Thursday at 7 pm and will quilt for the public at 25 dollars per quilt. Meetings are 7 pm Thursdays. hours 1 to 4 pm daily for viewing paintings.

From Whitewright Rhonda Bonds Kathey Ann Lewis and Jimmy L Spann. Bells residents Woodye Gilliam Vanita Martin and Gary Woodruff are listed on the Deans' List. from Trenton Gary Woodruff also appears on the Deans' List. The President's Honor Roll requires a 4.0 GPA. the Deans' List a 3.25 GPA. Students on the President's Honor Roll are also counted on the Deans' List for their college.

July 4 City Cleanup and Bicentennial Events in Whitewright

Whitewright kicks off a downtown cleanup aided by State Rep. Ben Munson and the Whitewright 200 club. The Dairy Queen Warehouse will get a new paint job as businesses plan renovations. July 4 features a community worship service at 11 a.m. with Dr. Truman Wester as speaker, a men’s chorus directed by Ronnie Pennell, patriotic hymns, a noon picnic at Legion Park, and antique displays from Sherman collectors. Local clubs plan booths to depict American life, and rides are offered for festival attendees.

Whitewright students earn Distinguished Student ranking at A&M

Two Whitewright students, Jane Biggerstaff and Debra Wortham, earned Distinguished Student status at Texas A&M University. Recipients must maintain a 3.25 GPA and place among the top 10 percent of undergraduates. The notice lists their majors and parent names among other local event previews and community notices.

Crusade Youth Rally Set Ahead of Texoma Crusade

An area wide youth rally will be held Saturday night June 26 at Sherman high school as part of the Texoma United Crusade July 18 25. Co chairmen Bob Northcutt and Vance Morris lead the youth division with speaker Oscar Roan Dallas Browns tight end. The 7 30 p m event includes a Hope of Glory choir from Pasadena Tex and is brought to Sherman by Jim Daniels.
