A Dallas announced reshuffles in the Sherman McKinney District of the North Texas Methodist Conference naming Rev John Polk as Whitewright pastor succeeding Rev Harold S Taylor who moves to Kaufman First. Rev Philip W Walker becomes district superintendent replacing Rev J P Fleming. The Paris district also lists multiple clergy assignments across Bonham Denison Frisco and other towns with numerous named pastors and churches.

David Cream aged 82 and his wife Sarah were the longest married couple among 19 pairs honored at a golden wedding party by the Grand Street Boys Association in New York. Cream advised that in anger a quiet approach helps both partners wait for the steam to pass.
Thomas C. Griffiths of Scranton Pennsylvania was fined 280 dollars for unlawfully causing the death of British air force officer Laurence Brown after Brown insulted Americans in January. Brown died six days later. An unrelated line notes that the average citizen has lost four teeth by age twenty five.
Mr and Mrs J P Darwin with granddaughter Judy Gosnell and Darlene DeBerry delivered Davy Crockett's 5 foot muzzle loader Old Betsy to the Alamo. The gun traded from Andy Thomas in 1835 and once hung in a Denison barber shop. It will be permanently displayed by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
Former House Speaker Reuben Senterfitt of San Saba became the first announced candidate for Texas governor in 1956. The 37 year old lawyer stepped out after Shivers pursued a third term, opening a large field with names like Shepperd Phillips Wilson Calvert Hart Ramsey Lock White Sadler Yarborough Hofheinz and Daniel among possible contenders.
The Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church has averaged 100 attendees by Wednesday afternoon with 110 enrolled. Commencement exercises are at 8:00 p.m. Friday in the church auditorium, and the public is invited. An opportunist motto about meeting the wolf is included.
James P. Autrey, 97, a Bethel community farmer and Bethel Baptist Church charter member, died Wednesday at his daughter's home. Services scheduled at 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with ministers E C McDonald A C Broach and B D Hardgrove officiating. Burial in Bethel Cemetery. Survived by son Taylor B. Autrey, three daughters, seventeen grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. born 1857 in South Carolina. married Ann Bradley in 1883. residence in Bethel 76 years.

Miller 80 who died Tuesday at his home will be held at 3 p m today at Earnheart Chapel with the Rev Elvis Hill of the Assembly of God Church officiating Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery Pallbearers are Elmer Ryan Frank England Rudolph Phillips Alton McDowell Frank Whitworth and C C McLean Miller a retired farmer born in Albany Kentucky came to Texas in 1909 lived in Ely then Whitewright since 1927 Member of the Assembly of God Church He is survived by three sisters Mrs D B Boles Albany Kentucky Mrs Will Gillings Joplin Missouri and Mrs Mollie Marley Whitewright and one brother R O Miller St Louis Missouri
Funeral services were held at Pilot Grove Baptist Church for J. M. Monk 50 who died Monday in Woodward Oklahoma from a heart attack. Rev. Ross Bourland and Rev. Leroy Martin officiated. Burial followed at Pilot Grove Cemetery. Surviving are wife four sons daughter two brothers a sister and five grandchildren.
William Cantrell long time Whitewright teacher later lawyer in Dallas died suddenly Sunday afternoon in Fort Worth while riding with his wife and daughter. He served as secretary to Sam Rayburn in 1932 and later as assistant US district attorney in Dallas after World War II. He was survived by his wife Oleta Chambers Cantrell daughter Ann son William Cantrell III and his mother Mrs Will Cantrell of Greenville.
Funeral services were held at 2 30 o clock Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Blue Ridge for John H. Goodwin 83 retired farmer. Burial followed in Blue Ridge Cemetery. Survivors include three sons and three daughters with 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
J C Carter of Southern Pacific Lines explains via Texas Press Clipping Bureau that a Whitewright Sun clipping reports SP Transport drivers blocking main street traffic. He apologizes to the inconvenienced and says VP G D Clark will take immediate corrective action to prevent recurrence. He invites reports of further incidents.
The Texas Legislature closed after 148 days without approval of a state water bond plan to fund dam projects. Gov. Shivers had pushed water conservation as top priority. A $50 million a year tax increase was signed, boosting gasoline, cigarette, and beer taxes and raising franchise taxes to fund general state costs and highway improvements.
Postmaster General Summerfield introduced a new certified mail option as part of regular operations. The service provides proof of delivery for items of no monetary value, with a 15 cent fee plus standard postage, and records kept at the local post office for six months. Full registration previously started at 30 cents per item.
The Grayson College Ex Students Association will meet Sunday on the high school campus with registration at 9 30 am. A business meeting, impromptu program arranged by George German, and possible contests or a debate are planned. Lunch is picnic style followed by an Alumni Center tour and relics display. Texas wheat farmers join national growers on June 25 to vote in a referendum on continuing marketing quotas for the 1956 crop. Eligible producers with more than 15 acres can vote. two thirds must approve.

Irbin Parker, 48, faced three police court complaints over barking dogs at rent houses and a motel. Neighbors complained guests and tenants were annoyed and would not return. Parker said he kept about 92 dogs but the case was continued until next Saturday.
