Charlie Ayres and party of four claimed to have hauled 111 fish from Grandpappy Point on the Texas side of Lake Texoma, throwing back smaller ones after using boat stringers and an anchor cord. The group reportedly boasted of sharing the fish with early risers downtown.
A United Press survey shows 372 people died in traffic accidents across the nation during the Memorial Day weekend setting a new all time record. The report tallies 576 accidental deaths and 136 drownings with 15 crash deaths and 53 other accidents. The prior three day record stood at 364 deaths.
The Senate approved a pay raise for 500,000 postal workers by 8 percent retroactive to March 1, in a 78 to 0 vote. The $164 million cost includes at least 6 percent for all, with higher raises for top-rate employees under new reclassification. Funeral services for W. E. Pennell 82 retired railroad man and farmer were held at Barnheart chapel with Rev. Lee H. Smith and Rev. Harold S. Taylor officiating. Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery Sherman. Survivors include wife Effie Francis Pennell daughter Mary Elizabeth Pennell stepdaughter Betty Jo Browning and several Pennell relatives.
Burial services were held at the Lewis family cemetery near Pilot Grove for Elmer Lewis 54 son of Mrs Davy Lewis of Pilot Grove community. He is survived by his wife and four children all of Oklahoma City Oklahoma his mother two brothers Arthur Lewis and Bill Lewis of Pilot Grove seven sisters Mrs Mary Butler of Pilot Grove Mrs Ruth Samuels and Mrs Orah Lee Ford Dallas Mrs Walter Smith Mrs Melba Johnston and Mrs C V Decker Tom Bean and Mrs Helen Ford Sherman.
Funeral services were held at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church for 16 year old James Wright Arnwine son of Nile and Mrs Arnwine of Nobility. Burial followed in Cross Roads Cemetery. He was killed in a traffic accident near Wolfe City last Thursday night. Larry Withrow 16 suffered injuries in the same crash. Arnwine was a native of Desert community south of Whitewright. Surviving are his parents a brother Bobby and two sisters Jewel Breaux Fort Worth and Johnny Johnson Denison.

An eight year old Gainesville Texas boy Ronald Ford died of polio today after receiving a Salk anti polio vaccine on April 20. He fell ill at home Saturday and was taken to a hospital. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Albert F. Ford. State epidemiologist Dr. R F White said this is the first Texas polio fatality among a child who had been vaccinated and that one shot does not guarantee immunity.
Hartford authority reports former chief justice William M. Maltbie scored a new automobile from a ticket purchased for a Yale Club gathering. The retired judge had previously ruled on raf fle illegal while serving on the State Supreme Court.
