An official from the Community Gas Company says sixty days are needed to finish the gas line work begun last Thursday. A large crew is ditching laying pipes welding connections and painting. Ditching delays from the machine are offset by night work with a capacity of three thousand feet per day.
In Paris a rich woman claimed to have a message from Nungesser's mother and asked to adopt Charles Lindbergh. She was granted admission by the embassy but met Ambassador Herrick instead. He explained Lindbergh already had the "best mother in the world" and she departed without meeting him.
A group of thirteen vessels bound for England sails amid memories of Britain’s once mighty sailing fleets. Most are Baltic or foreign flagged with only one bearing the British flag as they voyage from Australia laden with grain. The current trip may mark the end of an era as ships fade with steam power.
S R Park assists in J W Murphy sale this week and will start as traveling salesman for a hat company. He leaves early next week for Oklahoma to begin work. He formerly ran a dry goods business in Whitewright and recently sold his stock to J W Murphy.
The first load of this year's wheat arrived in Sherman on Tuesday, an early timing well ahead of the usual June 10. Grown by Clarence Bradshaw two miles south of the city on Dorchester road, the No. 2 grain tested fifty nine pounds per bushel and is expected to yield about fifteen bushels per acre. The crop was stored at the G B R Smith Milling elevator.
Lloyd Beheler about fifty was killed at six this morning at North Pleasanton fifty miles south of San Antonio. He worked in railroading and died in line of duty according to his brother in law Jesse Wallace. He lived in Whitewright Denison and South Texas before. Survived by wife Vera Wallace Beheler three children a sister Mrs Jesse Crabb of Leonard and H W Beheler of Greenville father. Funeral arrangements not announced.
Washington reports the Federal Radio Commission will replace meter based wavelength with kilocycles for station frequencies. The Bureau of Standards notes kilocycles simplify logging and align with scientific standards, since kilo means thousand and cycle is a full oscillation. Frequencies like 620 or 630 kilocycles fall on even numbers, while meter measures create irregular decimals.

Miss Emma Davidson formerly taught in Wichita Falls schools spends a week with her parents Mr and Mrs J W Davidson. She will leave Friday for Canyon to attend the West Texas Teachers College during the summer months.

Grayson County tax rates for 1927 set by the commissioners' court on May 28. County general fund 18 cents, county road and bridge 15 cents, county road bonds and sinking fund 15 cents, total 48 cents per $100. Districts levy additional bonds for road projects with varied rates by district. 1926 and 1927 rates largely unchanged except district No 9 Southmayor reduced from 80 to 70 cents. Total 1926 assessed valuation was $47,401,230.
Grayson County is well represented in the 1927 Baylor University graduation at Waco. The class, the largest ever with 245 graduates, includes Miss Ola Mildred Townly of Sherman, Arthur Wayne Jones of Denison, and Addison Alexander Vestal of Wightwright, all receiving Bachelor of Arts degrees. Addison is class vice-president.
Claud Stephens and Miss Irline Blanton, well known Whitewright residents, were married Sunday morning by Rev. C. Chumbley at Kentuckytown. They left for East Texas and plan to reside in Whitewright with Mrs. W. C. Fain. Stephens operates a truck line. Blanton is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Blanton.
A Junior and Children's Day program organized by Mrs. Howard Brodhead will be presented at Central Christian Church Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. A cordial invitation is extended to all to attend and enjoy this service. John Philip Barbee named agent for Pierce Oil Corporation at McKinney and assumed duties Wednesday. He will develop a large local field and previously belonged to the firm Davidson & Barbee. Jack Barbee also joined the store's staff.
America's first bale of cotton for 1927 growth sold at the Houston Cotton Exchange for 1350 dollars. J M Ethel of Houston purchased the bale after affidavits confirming 1927 growth arrived. Weighing 540 pounds, it was classed strict middling 28-29, grown by Montalvo in Hidalgo County and ginned at Edinburg.
New York June 1 Mrs Adela Condeau of Nice France sues her cousin Leon Schinasi multimillionaire cigarette manufacturer for 20000 claiming a promised wedding gift. Condeau married Rene Condeau in New York Oct 2 1926 after advancing her wedding date. Schinasi says any promise was conditional on Condeau having substantial income and that no written agreement exists.
Joe Weldon Carr son of Mr and Mrs D S Carr and Miss Eula Prescott wed May 28 in Dallas. After a Galveston honeymoon they will live at 1724 Bedford Ave Dallas. Carr, reared in Whitewright, graduated with honors from high school and attended a Dallas business school before joining Ferris Dunlap Equipment Co.
Mrs. Lillian Coffey Miss Bebe Daniels and Mrs. Ewing Rainey and daughter Josephine of Caddo Oklahoma spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs T F E Barbee.
W. B. Hestand of Slaton visited his mother Mrs. Mary Hestand and other relatives on Tuesday and Wednesday. He traveled to Denton and returned with his daughter Miss Joe Hestand, a former student at C. I. A., accompanying him home.
The white man s primary bill to meet the Supreme Court ruling affecting the present law barring negroes passed the House 77 to 26. An amendment to bar the State Executive Committee from blocking voters for past political views or organization membership was tabled 58 to 43.
Richard Lee about 70 fell dead Monday afternoon in a field north of town while working for J. H. Looney. Witness W. T. Hamilton said Lee had heart trouble and died before help arrived. The body was sent to Lloyd Moore for burial arrangements as relatives were notified.
Dr. and Mrs. Reynolds May hosted a Celina reunion at Rev. H. G. May's home with many relatives attending from Whitewright Waco Wilson Hood and New York. Attendees included Dr. E O May and Mrs. May and children, and Mrs. Chancellor and Mrs. Enderby, sisters and mother of the May couple. All children except Mrs. Albert Lee Jackson of New York were present, while S R McKinney and Maggie Montgomery hosted guests from Alvord and planned summer study at Denton Teachers College.
The annual union revival meeting of the Methodist and Presbyterian Churches starts Sunday at 11 in the Presbyterian Church with services twice daily thereafter. Rev. J. Ed Morgan of Texarkana will conduct the meeting and John O. Adams of Jacksonville will direct the music. Sunday school is at 10 at both churches.
Governor Dan Moody sent eleven new subjects to the Texas Legislature on Tuesday. General items include broker registration and regulation, junior college districts, state fund investments in government bonds, street improvements, gambling device penalties, and street lien provisions. Also proposed is ratification of the Canadian River compact. Local measures cover water control districts in Cameron County, and creation of the Harris County Houston ship channel district to develop deep water navigation and harbor facilities.
The first 1927 wheat to arrive in Wichita Falls came from W. K. Bandy who deposited 1,560 pounds at J. C. Hunt Grain Co. The grain would fetch about $1.30 per bushel if sold. Sandy's farm has 500 acres of wheat awaiting harvest with 150 acres in oats. The expected yields: 12 bushels per acre for wheat and 30 for oats. The inbound load averaged 55 pounds per bushel.
In Rock Springs Wyoming on June 1 John Cappazo's wedding is postponed as he recovers from a broken jaw caused when his bride-to-be struck him with a club during a prenuptial argument. He lies in Wyoming General Hospital muttering I love her.
Summer term starts Monday at the grammar and high schools with Miss Susie Noe directing grammar school work and Fred W. Smith and B. W. Crain overseeing high school work. Classes meet at the high school building to help students recover failed work and to complete four years in three.
Mr and Mrs W J Looney and daughter of Slaton visit relatives. He reports continued dryness in Slaton with little cotton planted and insufficient soil moisture. Early corn ruined by heat, but a rain soon could allow a good feed crop and possibly a fair cotton crop. They note little rain since December.
