Farmers Gain New Opportunity to Borrow from Land Banks
Washington reports farmers can borrow 100 to 50000 dollars from 12 federal land banks with lower rates and relaxed limits. Loans may cover land, equipment, debt retirement, or continued operation, secured by land and improvements, with five year grace for the first five years and rates at 4 to 5 percent for farm loan associations.

Banks will cover at most 50 percent of land value and 20 percent of improvements for the lien. If mortgages exceed these percentages the holder takes a loss. smaller mortgages incur proportional loss. Purpose is to liquidate claims and shift debt to land banks enabling lower rates for farmers.
