States Warned to Fund Relief as 500 Million Funds Expires
Emergency Relief Administrator Harry L. Hopkins warned states Tuesday that the 500 million dollar relief fund may not last through winter unless states contribute. Grants totaling 1.01 million were announced for Mississippi Alabama Arkansas and the District of Columbia, with discretionary funds cited for five states. Hopkins also announced the resignation of Langdon W. Post and said the position would not be filled. He pledged to challenge Oklahoma Governor Murray over changes in the relief organization.

Cottage Destroyed by Fire on South Bend Street
A five room cottage owned by F. J. Pollock of Marshall and occupied by barber W. E. Malone was destroyed by fire about 6 o clock Tuesday morning. The blaze started from a gasoline cook stove explosion. Insurance stood at 800 for the building and 500 for Malone’s belongings. A few articles were saved as neighbors alerted the fire station.
