Low Notes Suggested To Quiet Auto Horns By Expert
A research expert from the Illinois Institute of Technology proposes removing high notes from auto horns and leaving lower frequencies to reduce nerve wear for motorists and pedestrians. Daniel Callaway reports at an Acoustical Society of America meeting that sounds above 1200 cycles per second should be eliminated, with ongoing work on a horn using only low frequencies. Tests on three horn types show similar results, though experts caution that behavior of drivers remains unsolved.
